2021 saw the release of some brilliant games for car enthusiasts, including WRC 10 and the hugely successful Forza Horizon 5, but 2022 is shaping up to be even better for fans of all types of racing games. Whether you prefer to race on city streets, world famous tracks, or through deserts, there should be something on this list that will interest you.

Here are the top 5 racing games you should be keeping a lookout for in 2022.

GRID LEGENDS

Legends is the follow up to 2019’s Grid and looks to be taking the series in a new arcade racer direction. As you’d expect the game will feature a career mode and online multiplayer but the most interesting part is the new custom event types. You’ll have the option to choose everything from car class to weather and time of day, but if you really want to liven up a race you can place ramps and boost gates on any of the games 22 tracks.

Release date: 25 February 2022

Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC

GRAN TURISMO 7

Gran Turismo 7 is one of the most anticipated games of the year, and considering it’s been over 8 years since the last numbered entry in the series it’s no wonder fans are getting excited. We can expect to be able to race 400+ different cars on over 90 tracks and have access to extensive customisation options, including 600 unique aero parts, 130 wheel options, and a full livery editor.

Release date: 4 March 2022

Platforms: PS4, PS5

TEST DRIVE UNLIMITED SOLAR CROWN

After being announced back in 2020, then confirming the Hong Kong setting last year, the next instalment of the Test Drive series will finally be hitting consoles later this year. There’s still a lot we don’t know about the game but if it’s as fun as earlier games in the series then it will definitely be worth the wait.

Release date: 22 September 2022

Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch

DAKAR DESERT RALLY

This will be the first official Dakar game since 2018 and is intended to be a all-encompassing off road rally game featuring almost every vehicle type you can imagine, including cars, trucks, quads, motorbikes and more. You can expect to be racing through sand storms, rain, snow, and deep mud during both day and night when the game launches later this year.

Release date: TBC 2022

Platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC

FORZA MOTORSPORT

The next entry in the Forza Motorsport series was announced way back in July 2020, and while we still don’t have much information about it, 2022 could be the year we get more details and maybe even a release date. Forza games have always looked great but given that this one will be the first to be built from the ground up with the Xbox Series X in mind, it will hopefully be the most realistic driving experience available when we finally get to play it.

Release date: TBC

Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PC
