The 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup was the eighth edition of the tournament and was held in France from June 7 to July 7, 2019. This was the first time that the tournament was held in Europe since 1995, and the first time that it was held in France. A total of 24 teams from around the world participated in the tournament, including the United States, Germany, France, Japan, Brazil, and Spain.

The United States, who were the reigning World Cup champions and had won the tournament three times previously, were considered one of the favorites to win the tournament again. They were led by head coach Jill Ellis and featured a talented squad including Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, and Abby Wambach.

The tournament began with the group stage, where teams were divided into six groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, advanced to the knockout stage of the tournament.

In the group stage, the United States won all three of their matches, including a 13-0 victory over Thailand, which set a new record for the most goals scored in a single match in a Women's World Cup. Other teams that advanced to the knockout stage included Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and England.

The knockout stage of the tournament began with the Round of 16, where teams competed in single-elimination matches to advance to the quarterfinals. The United States defeated Spain 2-1 in the Round of 16, while France defeated Brazil 2-1 and Germany defeated Sweden 2-1.

In the quarterfinals, the United States defeated France 2-1 in a closely contested match, while England defeated Norway 3-0 and Sweden defeated Germany 2-1.

The semifinals of the tournament featured the United States against England and the Netherlands against Sweden. The United States defeated England 2-1, while the Netherlands defeated Sweden 1-0 to advance to the final.

The final of the tournament was held on July 7, 2019, at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in Lyon, France. The United States faced the Netherlands in the final, with the United States winning 2-0 to become World Champions for the fourth time. Megan Rapinoe and Rose Lavelle scored the goals for the United States, and Alyssa Naeher made several key saves to preserve the victory.

The United States were crowned the champions for the fourth time in the history of the tournament, and the team went on to receive numerous awards. Megan Rapinoe was awarded the Golden Ball for the tournament’s best player, while Alex Morgan was awarded the Silver Boot for the second-highest goal scorer and Rose Lavelle was awarded the Bronze Ball for the third-best player of the tournament.
