In 1975, the First UN Women's World Summit was held in Mexico City from June 19 to July 2, bringing together people from different backgrounds to promote gender equality. In June 1975, thousands of people gathered in Mexico City for a United Nations (UN) conference to celebrate the International Year of Women (IWY), the first of four United Nations women's conferences, including those in Copenhagen (1980), Nairobi (1985) and Beijing (1995). The conference took place in the Mexican capital, bringing together representatives from 133 countries and 6,000 NGO participants to launch IWY and bring the 10th anniversary of women from 1975 to 1985.

The conference demonstrated a clear commitment to international norms and standards on gender equality and to protect and promote the rights of women, girls, and human rights as an integral part of human rights around the world, underpinned by the institution's action to re-focus and accelerate implementation. In Mexico City, the summit called on the UN General Assembly to focus on international attention to the need to set forward goals and effective strategies and programs for the advancement of women. The conference developed the World Plan of Action to achieve the goals of the International Women's Year and to set guidelines for the advancement of women by 1985.

The first World Conference on the Status of Women and the Decade of the United Nations Women (1976-1985), Announced Five Months Next by the General Assembly at the urging of the Conference, ushered in a new era of global efforts to advance women and opened a global dialogue on gender equality. The International Conference on the Status of Women was organized by the Commission to conduct a technical assessment of the progress of the Platform for Action on its 49th session of March 2052 in New York. In 1995, member states of the United Nations (UN) 189 member states met in Beijing for ten days at the Fourth World Women's Conference (4WCW) to strengthen the Beijing Platform for Action (BPFA) which became the basis for women's equality in the World. Building on the work of previous UN conferences held at the United Nations in 1975, 1980, and 1985 and the Ten Years of Women, the Fourth United Nations Conference on Women produced the BPFA, considered a comprehensive international commitment to women's rights. In 1995, China joined the 4WCW in Beijing fifty years of legal progress aimed at ensuring equality between women and men in law and practice, building on political agreements arising from three previous international women's conferences.

In 1990 CSW reviewed and documented the progress made during the 1985 Nairobi International Conference and the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). CSW has concluded that legal equality has been achieved, but not real equality. Ten years later, in 2005 the United Nations Economic and Social Council reviewed the results of the Beijing Declaration and the Platform for Action and noted that four international women's conferences had initiated changes in the participating countries. After gathering responses from government officials, representatives of NGOs, and UN staff on education, employment, assets, criminal justice reform, and other issues, CSW delegates began drafting a resolution calling for an end to discrimination against women.

The Women's World Summit was held during the Cold War in the 1970s, during the civil war between the United States and the USSR over interests controlled in different parts of the world that divided the world into two camps and their influence areas. The United Nations declared the International Year of Women in 1975, and the conference was organized as part of the celebrations, but delegates from the opposition did not agree on how to allow it. The UN declared 1975 as the International Women's Year and organized the International Conference on the Status of Women in Mexico City.

The Fourth World Conference on Women (Nairobi) in 2000 focused on strategies to promote women in line with the principles of equality, development, and peace in the face of global changes such as the end of the Cold War, progress in democracy, and increasing poverty. While acknowledging the progress made in gender equality and recognizing the challenges and obstacles in implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action adopted at the Fourth Beijing Women's World Summit and the results of the 23rd Special Session of the National Assembly, the results were reviewed in New York. it's full and accelerated.
