Belize's history

The famous Maya once lived here and created a splendid ancient civilization. Belize was an ill-fated country, always overrun and colonized by other nations. In the early 16th century Belize was ruled by the Spanish and became a Spanish colony. The Spaniards used it as a great factory for dyeing and felled trees in Belize's land.

The Scottish pirate Wallace and others made Belis a stronghold in 1638. In the years that followed, the land became a scramble for the Spanish and British. The final battle ended temporarily with a victory for Britain, which exercised de facto jurisdiction over Belize in 1786. In 1821, Guatemala became independent and Belize became a Spanish jurisdiction.

In 1859, Guatemala demanded that Britain build a road to the Atlantic coast as a condition of declaring British sovereignty over Belize. Only three years later, in 1862, Belize was completely reduced to a British colony and renamed British Honduras. In 1940, Guatemala backtracked again, annulling the 1859 treaty with Britain, and included Belize into its own national territory.

After the Second World War in Belize, the anti-war awareness of the people increased, and the voice for independence continued to grow. In 1964, under the pressure of the Belize people, the United Kingdom had to agree to the internal autonomy of the Belize country. In June 1973, Belize finally had his own name, no longer British Honduras.

In 1975, the United Nations voted on Belize's independence issue. The overwhelming majority of countries voted for it. It is worth pondering that the United Kingdom voted for it, while Guatemala was against it. In 1979, the United Nations once again voted on Bellis' independence issue. The result of this vote made Bellis very excited. A total of 139 countries voted in favor.

In March 1981, the international community agreed to Belize's independence, and on September 21 of the same year, Belize, the ill-fated country, finally officially declared its independence. But Belis did not completely get rid of British control. After independence, it still existed as a member of the British Association. The first prime minister after independence was G.C. Price, the leader of the People's Union Party.

In 1984, the Belize government held its first general election, which was won by the United Democratic Party and M.E. Bisono became Prime Minister of Belize. On February 6, 1987, China and Belize established diplomatic relations. On October 23, 1989, China announced the suspension of diplomatic relations with Belize.

In order to protect the local natural environment and mineral deposits, the Belize government announced a ban on oil development in 2017.

Belize's flag

The flag was launched on September 21, 1981. It is rectangular in shape, with a blue background in the front, a white circle in the middle, and a broad red border above and below. The flag is painted with 50 green leaves. In the middle of the green leaves is the national emblem of Belize. The blue on the flag represents the sea and the sky, the red represents the sun and victory, and the 50 green leaves have a profound meaning, representing that Belize has fought for his independence since 1950, and finally won the victory.

The opening time of the national emblem is also September 21, 1981.
