My girl friends and I were chatting about everything under the sun when we landed on true crime. Not a great idea once we all had to walk to our cars alone… totally creepy. But it was still so fascinating discussing the lesser known cases. Sad, too. Here’s a list of the best true crime podcasts to listen to on your daily commute or that long trip to the in-laws when the holidays roll around.

Listen to these:

Mile Higher is hosted by the husband and wife duo, Josh Thomas and Kendall Rae. They cover crime, conspiracy, unexplained phenomena and more. Shoutout to all of my conspiracy junkies. New episodes on Mondays!

S-Town is hosted by Brian Reed who investigated a rich, Alabama man. He was hired by John to dig into the son of a wealthy family that kept bragging about getting away with murder. I love podcasts that are from the perspective of the investigator!

One of the stories that we brought up that night was actually from Serial. I love this one because the host doesn’t know the ending to the case, they’re surprised with the listeners each episode. Such a good one to listen to.

Up & Vanished is a podcast hosted by Atlanta filmmaker, Payne Lindsey of Tenderfoot TV. Each season covers a different case with the first one being a cold case from his hometown. A lot of people listen to this one!

Dirty John is about a woman who meets a doctor and of course it’s too good to be true. It’s hosted by Christopher Goffard from the L.A. Times.

So if you like Up & Vanished then I got another one for you. Atlanta Monster. The producers of Up & Vanished write this one; it follows the story of the Atlanta murders of 25 African American children and young adults.

Culpable brings awareness to cases that were poorly investigated and never reached justice. This one was recommended to me by a friend!

The Dr. Death podcast is about a neurosurgeon that caused a whole lot of pain and complications to 33 patients. It covers how the system failed to protect that patients. It’s real good.

If you enjoy listening to financial crime investigations then I got one for ya – Gangster Capitalism. This one covers the founding family have a university. Greed, power, hypocrisy… all the juicy stuff.

You guys will love A Murder On Orchard Street. A reporter of a 2003 murder case revisits the original recordings with a new perspective. Super interesting to hear the case from all angles.

Host Madeleine Baran and a team of reporters discuss abductions and the accountability of law enforcement with the In The Dark podcast. This one was recommended to me by multiple people.

88 Days: The Jayme Closs Story recaps a recent crime in 2018, the murder of a couple and their vanishing daughter. It keeps you hooked.

Crime Junkie – the title says it all. This one covers all different crime stories!

This list includes ones that I like and ones that have been recommended to me. They’re so good. Sometimes you need a break from music but you still want some background noise. Whether this is the case or you're an avid podcast listener, having something new to listen to is so nice. Listen to these podcasts and tell me which is your favorite!
