A spy, what not does for his nation. He sacrifice his life, he changed his gender, religion, identity and completely live a new life in many different countries. He gathers unwanted information and update his country well in advance about any bomb attack or terrorist attack. A spy really saves many life.

Whenever I see a spy related movie, that particular movie gives me goosebumps and awestruck feeling. The one whom I am going to write about will surely astonished you. Before I get start, let me give you some hint about the spy. First, the spy is female, during that period when females were considered as a curse, for more clarity in British period. Second, she was not even Indian.

She is none other than Saraswathi Rajamani.

Rajamani was born on 11th January in 1927, in Myanmar. She belonged from a rich family. Her father owned a gold mine and jewellery business.

One day, she and her family, went to hear Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's speech in Myanmar. After hearing the speech, she got so inspired, that she donated her all the jewellery to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose for the welfare of the Indian Military. At that time she was only 16 years old.

Netaji went her home to return the jewellery but Rajamani denied it and told him to use it for the Indian army. Netaji, after seeing the young girl potential determination and wisdom. He gave her the name Saraswathi and decided her to make a part of her army who were fighting for the independence of their own nation ( India).

In 1942, Rajamani was a part of the 'Rani of Jhansi Regiment' where she did the training of spy . She was one of the quick learner and best officer in that regiment. She was a part of Indian National Army, intelligence wing.

When she was sent for the mission with some other females. She and her colleagues were masqueraded as boys. While acting as a male, her name was Mani. Her team was responsible to gather information regarding the British strategies, intercepting government orders and military intelligence next planning and handed all these information to INA.

At once, her partner got caught by British troops. To rescue her, still knowing the consequences of it. Rajamani secretly entered the camp of police. She was dressed up as dancer. She drugged the police officer who was in-charge and imprisoned her colleague. While escaping Rajamani was shot in her right leg but she avoided the pain and kept on running. She climbed the tree and camped there for 3 days. While the British officers were searching for them.

Netaji was really proud of her great escape without being caught. For this she was even given a gold medal by Japanese emperor.

After the second World War, INA was disbanded by Subhash Chandra Bose. All the INA members were instructed to come back to India. Rajamani family gave all the wealth to freedom struggle and came to India. Then lived in Chennai, one room apartment.

Saraswathi Rajamani died of cardiac arrest on 13th January 2018.

There are many people who fought for their nation bravely and then their faces and their gallant stories have been forgotten by the youth. Now its very common to hear from every youth about discouraging their own country and freedom fighters who fought for their nation and sacrificed their life. Freedom fighters must deserve respect from their own nation by their own people and their brave stories must be pass on from one generation to another one.
