Hello, everyone, this is Hipster Panda, we meet again. The world is full of creatures, and there are countless species of creatures, and it is the diversity of creatures that have created our vibrant planet today.

In its long history, the Earth has experienced five biological extinctions, each extinction has extinct more than 70% of the creatures. However, some species can survive biological mass extinctions, regardless of the heat or cold, or even asteroids hitting the Earth can not make its destruction. Next, we'll count down these "living fossils" for you.

Platypus

The platypus is one of the most unusual mammals, although it is a mammal, but is oviparous. The platypus has no more close relatives on earth. It is the only animal in the genus Platypus. The oldest platypus fossil was found in the Cretaceous strata of Australia, which means that the platypus lived in the same era as the dinosaurs.

It is inferred that the platypus has been on the earth at least 200 million years ago. The platypus is a critically endangered species and is likely to become extinct. It usually lives mainly in the water and feeds on small fish and shrimps and shells.

Beak-headed lizard

This is a very old lizard, which has only been found in New Zealand. Although it is called a lizard, it is not the same species as all the other lizards we currently have on the planet. It is a very old species, its skeleton and internal organs are preserved in a very ancient state and have not evolved.

This lizard is a very distinctly hermaphroditic creature, with males up to 60 cm in length, but females up to 30 cm in length, and it is thought that the beaked lizard first appeared 220 million years ago and remained in its most primitive state for over 200 million years.

Another special feature of the beak-headed lizard is that it has a real third eye, which has a retina that can sense light, and this eye has nerves connected to the brain.

Spear-tailed Lizard

The spearfish was thought to be extinct tens of millions of years ago. But back in 1938, fishermen in South Africa were fishing in the Western Indian Ocean when they hit this fish. After a lot of trouble, it was discovered and studied by experts, and it is known that the spearfish may have lived as early as 400 million years ago, and it is also unchanged from ancient times, with eight fins all over its body and a body length of up to two meters.

Horseshoe crab

It doesn't look much like any of our earthly creatures, but it looks almost identical to the ancient trilobite. In particular, it is extremely similar to trilobites in its juvenile stage. It has thick armor and looks a bit scary, like most ancient creatures, and is known to have appeared on Earth at least 450 million years ago.

Its blood is capable of trapping bacterial viruses and is known as liquid gold. 1 liter of blood can be bought for $1.50, which has extremely high scientific value.

Cyanobacteria

Cyanobacteria is a very old bacteria, its survival range is very wide, as long as there is water where been found cyanobacteria. Currently, fossils of cyanobacteria are found in 2.2 billion-year-old fossils, so it has been living on earth for at least 2.2 billion years.

Many plants have survived on Earth for a long time, on the contrary, animals are relatively rare, perhaps in the deep sea, or the jungle and some of the creatures thought to be extinct are still alive, just not found, perhaps not found is also their lucky!
