On the other hand, the divinity of Jesus points to his divine nature as the eternal Son of God. He is part of the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. As the divine Son, Jesus possesses attributes and characteristics that are uniquely divine, such as omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence. He is the Word-made-flesh, the visible manifestation of God’s love and redemption for humanity. Through his divinity, Jesus performed miracles, forgave sins, and ultimately offered himself the perfect sacrifice for the salvation of humanity.

The humanity and divinity of Jesus are inseparable and essential to understanding the depth of God’s love for humanity. By becoming fully human, Jesus could identify with our struggles and empathize with our weaknesses. He experienced the joys and pains of life, enabling him to be our compassionate High Priest who intercedes on our behalf before God. At the same time, his divinity ensures that his sacrifice on the cross has infinite value, capable of reconciling us with God and offering eternal salvation.

It is through the perfect union of his human and divine natures that Jesus accomplished our salvation, bridging the gap between humanity and God. HUMANITY OF JESUS

a. Incarnation:

In the Incarnation, the eternal Son of God took on human flesh, being conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary (Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:35). Jesus became fully human, experiencing the limitations, vulnerabilities, and emotions of human existence.

b. Physicality and Growth:

Jesus had a physical body and experienced human growth and development. He ate, drank, slept, and felt physical pain (Luke 24:41–43; John 19:28). He also grew in wisdom and stature (Luke 2:52).

c. Temptation and Suffering:

Jesus was subject to temptation and faced the trials and sufferings common to humanity. He was tempted in the wilderness by Satan (Matthew 4:1–11) and experienced physical and emotional anguish, such as in the Garden of Gethsemane before His crucifixion (Matthew 26:36–46).

Jesus identified with the human condition, associating with sinners, the marginalized, and the outcasts. He displayed compassion, empathy, and understanding, ministering to the needs of people and demonstrating a deep love for humanity

DIVINITY OF JESUS

a. Son of God:

Jesus is identified as the Son of God, indicating His divine nature and unique relationship with the Father. He claimed to be one with the Father, sharing the same divine essence (John 10:30). His divinity is evident in His authority, miracles, and teachings.

b. Pre-existence:

Jesus existed before His incarnation, eternally existing as the second person of the Trinity. John 1:1–3 affirms that Jesus, the Word, was with God in the beginning and was God. His preexistence points to His divine nature.

c. Divine Titles and Attributes:

Jesus is ascribed divine titles and attributes throughout the New Testament. He is called the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last (Revelation 1:8). He possesses divine attributes such as omniscience (John 16:30), omnipotence (Matthew 28:18), and eternal existence (John 8:58).

d. Forgiving Sins and Performing Miracles:

Jesus forgave sins and performed miracles, demonstrating divine authority and power. Only God has the authority to forgive sins, yet Jesus forgave sins and demonstrated His ability to control the natural elements and heal the sick (Mark 2:5–12; Matthew 14:14).

e. Resurrection and Ascension:

Jesus’ resurrection and ascension into heaven affirm His divine nature. He conquered death and was raised to life by the power of God (Acts 2:24). His ascension to the right hand of the Father signifies His exalted divine status (Acts 1:9–11).

Understanding the humanity and divinity of Jesus is crucial for comprehending the significance of His redemptive work. As the fully human and fully divine Savior, Jesus bridged the gap between God and humanity.

His humanity enables Him to relate to and represent humanity, while His divinity qualifies Him to bear the weight of humanity’s sin and provide salvation.

The humanity of Jesus ensures that He can sympathize with our weaknesses, having experienced the challenges and temptations of human life (Hebrews 4:15).

His divinity guarantees the efficacy and sufficiency of His sacrificial death on the cross, providing redemption and reconciliation with God (Hebrews 9:11–14).

The mystery of the incarnation, where the Son of God took on human flesh, reveals the profound love and grace of God toward humanity. Through Jesus, God fully identifies with our humanity, offering salvation and eternal life to all who believe in Him.
