The Myth About The Los Angeles Infamous Lizard People.

The Deep Underground City Of The Lizard People

Quiet Deep beneath the main heart of Los Angeles’ financial district, precisely hundreds of feet way below the big downtown edifices which house banks, some corporate offices and even government agencies, does lay another city which is remembered only in obscure and weird Indian legends, an underground city or you could say "world" which was built by a strange race that suddenly vanished five thousand years ago.

At the very least that’s exactly what a certain mining engineer by the name W. Warren Shufelt claimed back in the January 29, 1934 edition of the popular Los Angeles Times. According to Jean Bosquet, who is a reporter, Shufelt was quiet in the spirit and very much ready to dig up downtown L.A. in search quest of this very ancient subterranean race.

Shufelt did first hear of the notoriously weird and secretly preserved city in somewhat of a Hopi Indian legend about the “Lizard People.” They were a fabled lost civilization who had all nearly been wiped out after a meteor shower did rain down on the Southweste way back in time at around 3,000 BC. (Arizona’s rather spectacularly famous Winslow Crater is said to be Ground Zero of this fiery occurrence or deluge.)

These Lizard race did construct complete set of thirteen subterranean settlements all sweeping through the path along the Pacific Coast, to further shelter and secure the tribe from unforeseen and untold future disasters to come. These underground civilizations were said to be so enormous they housed a settlement of a thousand families each, along with relevant stockpiles of food for the entire clans survival. As the story did have it, the tribe made use of a “chemical solution” which was capable of melting solid bedrock in order to bore out the tunnels and make rooms of their subsurface shelters.

Alongside housing their own people and safeguarding them in the event of a disaster, these tunnels were indeed also constructed to hold an enormous trove of golden tablets which of course did chronicle the tribe’s complete history, the beginning and origin of humankind, and the mysterious story of the entire world back to its creation. Shufelt in his own right was particularly and specifically very much interested in these tablets both for pecuniary reasons as much as archaeological reasons.

Going back a little further into the past, a Hopi chief by the name Little Green Leaf did tell Shufelt that this vanished race’s capital city was indeed located right under the very present-day downtown city of Los Angeles. Back In 1933, after properly surveying the site, he stayed in the Banning property located at 518 North Hill Street and conducted an experiment where he sank a 350-shaft straight down into the earth, when asked he said he was rather digging for what he said was a “treasure room” Just directly underneath. He said that indeed he had located and detected gold right in the catacombs below with the aid of his “radio X-ray” machine.

This peculiar and special instrument, which was some sort of tricked-up dowsing rod, had even also helped Shufelt to map the exact location and the full extent of the underground catacombs and tunnels. He further stated that the subterranean civilization or race was shaped like a giant lizard, with its head in the area of Chavez Ravine (the present day location of Dodger Stadium), and its tail tapering out beneath the today known location of the Central Library. The “key or Major room,” the room that housed the map of the entire city and the directory to its stanched gold tablets, did lay several hundreds of feet beneath the present site of the Times-Mirror Square.

Shufelt also did claim that he had very meticulously traced down passages which were stretching to the site located around the Southwest Museum, and said that the catacombs had its ventilation tunnels which extended westward, opening at the Pacific Ocean.

Despite all of his quiet extensive mapping and detailed plotting of the acclaimed treasure-filled underground city, Shufelt never in record actually did find it. Shortly after the Times story did appear, the project, which was authorized by the City Council well over a year earlier, suddenly came to a halt, after this came to light, Shufelt and his cohorts eventually were not to be seen anymore by anyone mysteriously. The whole rather mysterious, very improbable business was merely written off to be a well planned and organized hoax, and was soon after quickly forgotten. Since then, inexplicable and explainable tunnels have been unearthed in the locations of downtown Los Angeles, but they’ve mostly and quiet often usually been explained away and written off as the crafty work of smugglers hiding illegal Chinese workers back in the 19th century.

But you must note: Shufelt wasn’t known to be the only modern Californian who believed in the fact that an ancient underground city did in fact lay beneath Los Angeles. As a postscript to this very strange and rather weird tale, let’s take a gander at the vision of popular Miss Edith Elden Robinson of local-Pico Rivera, which did appear in the adored and very respected American Society for the Psychic Research’s journal.

On the very evening of the 22 of December, 1933, exactly five weeks before Shufelt’s excavations eventually hit the pages of the Times, the rather clairvoyant Miss Robinson did envision that right under Los Angeles lay quiet “a vast city…in mammoth tunnels which extends all the way to the sea-shore.” She further implied that these tunnels had in fact been constructed and laid in place by a now vanished civilization to protect and secure themselves from luring and impending danger, and to provide them access to the sea.

Well, I am E.A Noah, your folklore and urban legend story teller and just who knows? Maybe this once upon a time spectacular and fabulous subterranean race did really exist in the past. Perhaps all things been considered and seeing how our world is technologically advanced its also probable that the city now being wherever it is, it's even populated with modern-day Lizard People who carry brief cases to work, and do live well hidden and unsuspected some hundreds of feet way below the today-modern Los Angeles, surfacing only once in a while in beguiling disguise to watch and learn how our race, the 21st-century barbarians are gradually and slowly strangling their own surface-level civilization with smog, urban sprawl and traffic.
