Possibly More Powerful Than The Universe

Deeper Into The Subconscious Mind

We all know that Earth is an enormous planet with the population of 7,874,965,825 people. Then, you have our galaxy. How big is our galaxy? We have eight known planets (including Earth) with Jupiter being the largest. We have the Sun. It has the radius of 696,342 kilometers (432,690 miles); that is the size of 109 Earth planets. It is also the biggest star in our solar system. Speaking of stars, you look at pictures of our solar system, and there are so many to count. It would be impossible to count every single star in our solar system and come up with an accurate number. However, after thorough research, scientists believe that there are about two trillion galaxies in the universe. They determine that there is an average of 100 million stars between galaxies, and the number of stars that our galaxy has could be as high as one trillion. So yes, that is a lot of stars.

I am positive that many of you know most of the facts that I just mentioned above. “Yeah, yeah. I know that our solar system has eight planets and the Sun.” “I know that the biggest planet is Jupiter.” “I know that the Sun is the biggest star.” “I am aware that there are a bunch of stars in space.” “We get it. We live in a vast galaxy.” One can assume that this is not uncommon knowledge, and that may be true.

However, let us go back to the stars that spread out in our galaxy. Yes, there are so many of them, but there is something that outnumbers the stars in our galaxy. What outnumbers these stars is the synapses in a human brain. Yes, there are more synapses in a human’s brain than there are stars in our galaxy. How on Earth is that even possible? The human brain has the average width of 140 millimeters, the average length of 167 millimeters, the average height of 93 millimeters, and about two percent of our body weight. The average size of our galaxy is about 100,000 light years. If that is the case, it would be difficult to believe that we have more synapses in our brains than we have stars in our solar system.

What is so special about the synapses in a human brain?

Synapses

The general process of synaptic transmission. Credit: teachmephysiology.com

According to the Britannica, the synapse is "the site of transmission of electric nerve impulses between two nerve cells (neurons) or between a neuron and a gland or muscle cell (effector). A synaptic connection between a neuron and a muscle cell is called a neuromuscular junction." To simply put it, synapses are nerve connections in the brain.

"Electronic circuits works a million times faster than the firing of the neurons in the brain. The rate of firing is 1,000,000,000 per second in transistor which makes it superior than brain neurons which fires only at the rate of 10000 per second, moreover they have immense precision and accuracy that is in no way shared by humans! But the only thing that makes our brain superior than machines is in the subconscious part (mind) of human brain which are more competent than machines! A transistor in machine can have only 3 or 4 connections between each transistor which is associated with memory rather than computational processing. But a neuron in our brain can have synaptic connections in more than 80,000 which makes it behaves like a quantum computer which works on the basis of quantum superposition of information." - Dr. Fahad Basheer

Dr. Basheer also added that even though the conscious mind has more neurons than the subconscious mind, the subconscious mind has more synapses. As a result, the subconscious mind can effortlessly do things a lot quicker than the conscious mind. Let us say that you are learning to roller skate. In the beginning, it is not easy for you to roller skate smoothly. You may have a little fear in you. You hold onto things around you like the walls. You may even fall down a few times. The more you practice, the more smoothly you roller skate. The reason is because the experiences of roller skating are transplanted in the subconscious mind, and the subconscious mind automatically takes control. As you practice and get more experienced with an activity, the connections in your brain strengthens. Because the subconscious mind has more synapses, the subconscious mind affects our daily lives. Therefore, without the synapses, we would not have a potent subconscious mind. Is it possible that the subconscious mind is more powerful than the Universe?

Wait! Now, we are talking about the subconscious mind?

Conscious Mind

Before we get to the subconscious mind, let us talk about the conscious mind. The conscious mind is what we notice in front of us. It picks up information that we see, feel, hear, smell, and taste. As you do things like watch television, listen to music, or other things, you are actually utilizing your conscious mind. It is our self-concept, or ego, part of the mind. Its job is to gather obvious information, make decisions, and pass the information to the subconscious mind.

Subconscious Mind

Now, let us talk about the subconscious mind. According to best-selling author and cosmetic surgeon, Maxwell Maltz, the subconscious mind is the powerful part of the human brain. He has written a self-help book titled Psycho-Cybernetics: A New Way to Get More Living Out of Life. His ideas have inspired motivational speakers and authors like Zig Ziglar and Tony Robbins.

The subconscious mind is always working even while you are sleeping. It does not pass judgement, and it only accepts what the conscious mind gives it. Incredibly, it stores all the information and memories that our conscious mind is not aware of at times. For example, you may have forgotten the clothes that your spouse wore when you first met them, but the subconscious mind has that information. You may have forgotten the first book you read in the seventh grade, but the subconscious mind has that information as well.

The subconscious mind can be very magical. Our inner world impacts our outer world. In other words, whatever thought we have in our subconscious, positive or negative, it can affect our daily lives. For example, if we constantly think about our issues, stress and negative experiences are manifested into our lives. One of the ways to subside the tension of our negative thoughts is sleeping. According to the Frontiers in Neural Circuits journal, “During sleep, new synaptic connections are formed, and old connections are ‘cleaned up’. This can allow you to see patterns where none existed before.” Experts believe that practicing positive thinking before sleeping and after waking up is greatly beneficial, and it sets up improvements in our lives. This method is part of a good mental diet.

Another way to train our minds to not focus on our negative thoughts is meditation. Practitioners are aware of how powerful meditation can be and enjoy the benefits of it. Meditation filters out these negative thoughts, and it helps a person become more mindful. This peaceful practice can enhance the quality of a person’s life, and of course, this leads to manifesting happiness. People report benefits ranging from willpower to age defying. Your freshly upgraded superman subconscious opens up a whole new level of mind mastery, effectively multiplying your potential as a human being — while uprooting whatever limiting thoughts, beliefs, and anything else keeping you from fulfilling your life-purpose. Meditation has no kryptonite.” - Equisync/ EOC Institute

In order to improve areas in our lives, reprogramming the subconscious mind is very important.

Whether you think you can or think you can’t - you’re right.” - Henry Ford

Ways to reprogram our subconscious minds are:

  • Affirmations – Saying positive messages about yourself in present tense. Example, “I am good enough” or “I am beautiful.” Avoid using negative adverbs like “not.” Never say things like “I am not poor” because the subconscious mind cannot process words like “not” or “never.” Therefore, it is best to focus on what you want, not what you do not want.
  • Visualization – Imagine yourself experiencing your dreams and goals from first person point of view. Feel as if it was real. What are you seeing? What do you hear? What are the scents?
  • Environmental Influences – Put yourself in a more positive environment. Be around those who are successful and who encourage you. Stay away from the ones who are negative and who are likely to put you down. Create vision boards that will help you focus on your goals. Hang up motivational home decors that will encourage you. Click here for examples of home decors. The ideas for surrounding yourself with inspirations are endless.
  • Hypnosis – Receiving positive or motivational messages while in a deeper state of relaxation to improve self-concept and promotes different benefits in life. It usually comes in a pre-recorded audio by a professional or even oneself.
  • Binaural Beats – These are tones that affect the brainwaves when the frequency changes. There are five different brain frequencies, and each one depends on your actions. According to Paul McCoy of Rainmakers, “These audio programs can help you reprogram your subconscious mind by creating a more receptive forum for installing positive messages. Research has shown that your subconscious mind is more receptive to new information when you’re very relaxed, such as in the alpha or theta states.

As long as you persist and be consistent when using these methods, you will notice changes in your life. If the progress feels real and more believable, that is when you realize that the reprogramming is operating.

Whatever we plant in our subconscious mind and nourish with repetition and emotion will one day become a reality.” – Earl Nightingale

Conclusion

The fact that there are more synapses in a human brain than stars in the galaxy shows how magnificent our minds work. Our dreams and goals can potentially be limitless. It may seem far-fetched to many people, but there have been incredible success stories. Whether or not it is true if the human brain is mightier than the galaxy or the Universe, the power of the subconscious should never be underestimated.
