Don't You Know That You're Toxic?
Privilege, old money, and hypocrites- a rant.

My heart is beating 512 times a minute... you know what that means, right?
Exactly! Another Monster fueled rant. I know what you're thinking... TWO in one week? Yes. You're welcome.
Ok, enough fancy openings. No time for that. My fingers are also running a marathon and they're ready to get to the point!
I'm gonna lose my mind if I have to see one more reel or Facebook post about Perez Hilton. Everybody on the internet right now is walking around high fiving each other and practically doing backflips because the guy who built an empire off being a menace in the early 2000's is having a brutal and very public mental health crisis.
If you're unaware of what happened, I will not share the video. I was subjected to it in a private message before I even knew what was going on and if you haven't seen it, PLEASE don't go looking for it. Basically, Perez went nude on a TikTok live for over 30 minutes while attempting to kill himself. I'll spare the full details but just say it was gory and heartbreaking. Probably triggering to many people.
Ironically, as someone who used to self harm, I don't get triggered by seeing those kinds of things, but a lot of others say they do which is why I say again, PLEASE DON'T GO LOOK IT UP. DON'T LOOK FOR PHOTOS OR VIDEOS OR ANYTHING. Just leave it alone and trust me when I say it was sad and horrifying to see another person do what he did.
For some people, it's been hilarious to watch apparently. And they aren't just laughing or slandering him... they're actively digging up and making posts about every single vile thing he's ever said or done over the last twenty years. They're circulating these things pretending to be in court and acting like they get to be the jury and its gross. Compiling a list of his past fuck ups somehow gives them all a hall pass to treat another human being like absolute garbage today.
One person started it, so naturally... the internet wanted to be cool and follow because they have this insane thirst to be relevant in every trending subject. Weird. The word of the week everyone is hiding behind is "karma."
"Oh, it's karma! He's getting what he deserves! He's reaping what he sowed!"
Shut the fuck up. Seriously... just shut up.
Everybody knows how much I love and adore Britney Spears. I love her to death. I hated what Perez did to her, I hated how he treated her during her worst moments. I don't agree with or condone a single fucking horrible thing he did to anyone back in the day. He was cruel, invasive, and completely out of line.
But let me take you on a side quest here:
Perez Hilton got his name from Paris Hilton. He used it to report on celebrity gossip etc. Interesting name choice, right? It's because Paris was sneakily doing things to that whole group of celebrities.
Mario Lavandeira didn't just pick a stage name out of a hat in 2004. He created "Perez Hilton" after watching Miami venues hold VIP tables for Paris Hilton just to generate free press, even when she wasn't there. He realized her name was a golden ticket, so he piggybacked off her mean girl image to build his own media empire. But while they both built their careers on the ruthless 2000's celebrity machine, history somehow decided to treat one like an innocent victim and the other like a social pariah.
If you actually take a glimpse at how Paris treated her own circle, the "poor Paris" narrative falls apart completely.
Remember the infamous 2006 Lindsay Lohan incident? Lindsay went to paparazzi, holding up visible bruises on her arm while telling the camera Paris hit her with a drink. Cut to seconds later, with Paris standing right there, and Lindsay suddenly backtracks. She looks terrified and claims Paris never hit her and that everyone lies.
Paris often framed Lindsay Lohan as an unhinged party crasher who was never invited to anything and just showed up. She routinely humiliated her on and off camera. She called her foul names like 'fire crotch' and treated her like trash. There were even rumors that Paris went to Lindsay's family and suggested she was mentally unstable and belonged in a conservatorship. It never happened and no one ever pursued it, thank God. But Paris was always active in running the same toxic game.
Fast forward a few years and then look at Paris and Britney.
Perez monetized Britney's downfall from behind a keyboard. Paris monetized Britney's survival. She positioned herself as Britney's loyal protector and her personal ride-or-die savior during the #FreeBritney movement. But when Britney finally gave her testimony in 2021 to end her own conservatorship, that illusion shattered. Britney made it clear that people were using her name, her past, and her trauma to boost their own image.
So why does Paris get the 'poor girl' treatment while Perez gets treated like dirt?
Because in 2020, she released This Is Paris. She reframed her entire 2000's persona (the toxic behavior, the mean girl antics, the exploitation of everyone around her, the name calling, the public bullying) as a trauma response to abuse she claims to have faced at a boarding school. Add in Y2K nostalgia and old money privilege, and the internet swallowed it whole. People decided to forgive her nastiness because it was wrapped in velvet tracksuits and the catch phrase, "That's hot."
Perez has actually apologized for the crap he pulled, (Paris did not, just told the world her story of why she was a monster) but he doesn't get to be re-written and just another helpless victim of the era. At the end of the day, Paris has three things Perez doesn't... multi generational wealth, old money PR machinery, and extreme privilege. Perez apologized and admitted he was wrong. He's tried to change his brand, but the internet refuses to let him even attempt to climb out of the grave he's dug. Paris is responsible for the downfall of Lindsay Lohan... but she apparently, she gets to hide behind pink aesthetics and her victim arc.
So, if you think celebrating a man having a graphic, life threatening breakdown on a livestream is somehow honoring Britney or bringing balance to the universe, you've lost your damn mind. And if you condemn Perez's actions but then go out and purchase Paris's cookware, you're a hypocrite.
If you actually believe in karma, if you actually believe that putting hateful energy out into the world comes back to bite you in the ass, how the hell do you think this works? Do you think the universe gives you a fucking VIP pass to be a cruel, sadistic asshole just because the target is someone you don't like?
That's not how it works...
You don't get to point at a guy losing his mind and pass around the video like it's a shiny new meme and laugh. You sure as fuck don't get to pretend you're on some holy moral crusade after the fact. You aren't dispensing justice, you're just being a bully.
By celebrating this and happily participating in the destruction of another person, you're proving that you're no better than anything you're complaining about. You're doing the exact same shit Perez and Paris did twenty years ago.
It makes me sick how fake everyone is. We all preach about mental health, right? "Check on your friends!" "Be kind!" "You never know what someone's going through!" Until it's someone who isn't perfect or someone with a yucky past...
then suddenly it's open season. All that deep and spiritual empathy goes straight out the window. "Well, he wasn't nice in 2008... so he doesn't deserve basic human decency now." Are you fucking kidding me?
You're not fixing the culture... you're just taking your turn playing the villain you claim to hate so much.
The cold, hard reality that nobody cheering this downfall wants to swallow is this: if putting cruelty into the world accumulates bad karma, then sitting on your couch, eating popcorn, and jerking off your ego over another human being's tragedy is putting bad karma onto your own damn tab.
Congratulations, you're pre-ordering your own downfall. You're building the exact same toxic, bloodthirsty monster that will eventually turn around and eat you the second you slip up.
Good luck!
