Growing up I always watched the Yu-Gi-Oh! Franchise & it’s series of shows this is no different. The new Yu-Gi-Oh! Series, “Sevens” introduces a new set of characters & way of dueling that will revolutionize the world. I review the opening & the first episode. I hope you enjoy.

The opening is very upbeat & gives off vibes from Jojo’s Bizarre adventures. It also reminds me of the anime “Kaitou Joker” that’s about a phantom thief who goes around stealing valuable items while setting traps for the police along side his ninja assistant Haichi.

The sounds are very lighthearted & open energy. I love the use of the saxophone and the blues element which makes it catchy and it shows a lot of the characters in a very fun environment while also showing their personality.

I love the fact that they included Chibi versions of our main cast even though it’s to appeal to a younger audience. It goes to show how light hearted & on the surface positivity that can go in.

The whole comic scenes to reference a time where you can enjoy the experience of a new world is very fresh & imaginative.

A small flipped scenes of what looks like the evil cooperation known as Goha Corp reminds me of Pokémon Team Rocket where the factions are split from grunts to executives & leading into the big boss.

From what looks like the executives of Goha Corp there’s a little girl which gives the impression that one of our main characters might be involved but only time will tell.

After watching the opening it gives me more hope & very hopefulness for the episode & show as a whole. I’ll give a description of each character & their involvement with the current episode.

Gakuto Sogetsu reminds me of Bastion Misawa from Yu-Gi-Oh! Gx and Iida Tenya from My Hero Academia because they’re by the book; very knowledgeable & freaks out sometimes when the rules aren’t followed.

Tatsuhisa Kamijo (Rook) is kind of like a bad boy who’s not so bad. He seems like he likes a challenge & doesn’t like waiting around. He reminds me of duke devlin with the calm & collective persona. It’s seems like he has some sort of object or “ability” that allows him change the speeds of technology. Like how he short circuit yuga’s bike & the robot that hovers around yuga as well as speeding up nearby tech like what he did to yugas duel disk hack. He’s someone to look out for. A Small theory I have is that he could be related to mr goha president.

No sign of goha Corp or Mr Goha yet but this episode seems to be about the main cast & the introduction to yuga & his dream of being duel king by bringing his dream of Rush Duels to life. As president of Goha Corp this character is said to have never been seen by anyone which leads to what this character is hiding.

Yuga Odo is the main character like yuusaku & yugi of the series prior. Inventing seems like Yugas calling back at his little room where he will tinker with tech. Residing in primary school he has a dream of being the next duelist known for his style of dueling, Rush Dueling.

Everyday he will try to install his new rules for rush duels into the duel disk mainframe in the time limit before the firewall kicks him out. Always unsuccessful but by gaining some unique comrades he was given the nudge to complete the installation in time in order to face this “hologram man” from a monument depicting the king of duels.

Hologram Man is known as an urban legend that challenges duelists to validate if they’re worthy of being the next king of duels. He is seen in the opening quite a few times which indicates he might be seen more than this episode.

Romin Kirishima is the female character to share the main character slot of the group. She plays in a band and is known mostly for that. She mentions she doesn’t like dueling and it seems like she the representation of those who can’t really speak on their own behalf considering everyone doesn’t enjoy dueling the way goha corp set out for them.

The design of the episode is very colorful. That being said, it seems like shadows & contrast color sticks out a lot.

Taking place in Goha City where it’s governed by a company known as Goha Corp who has major influence in the dueling and way of life with its citizens. This episode showed how dueling was a necessity for everyone & not just those who chose to duel. As a way of life dueling is essential to the citizens of goha city.

The main character Yuga changed things when he installed the new rush duel rules and ultimately taking control from Goha Corp.

With everyone (at least the children) having duel disks they are subjected to penalties when they don’t follow the rules. With 6 penalties your account is banned and probably along with other privileges like education or food.

With the help of Kashima (Rook) Yuga embarks on a monument where hologram man emerges to challenge him to a duel as a test to validate the potential of the new “Duel King”. After lukes interference with Yugas installation of the new rules into the duel disk he (along with the others) are able to buy enough time for Yuga to finish the setup and begin the duel installation.

After the duel, The team is then exposed to a pathway that was unlocked by Yuga and his win against the hologram man which not only acknowledged yuga as the next duel king but literally changed everyone’s duel disk to meet the rush duel requirements that yuga had placed.

What’s interesting to note is that the marks on the duel disk represents penalties as if losing a duel was wrong & if you got six marks something dire will occur. With the whole show gravitating towards the number 7 it’s funny how there isn’t 7 marks total instead of 6.

This actually seems like a play on words because after the 6th strike your account becomes banned but with the implementation of rush duels & the “7” being the lucky number (and after 6) the freedom to reach new heights can be reached.

There was only one duel between hologram man & Yuga. This duel was via rush duel installation rulings which meant for yuga to finish implementing his new rush duel application he will have to duel the hologram man. Yuga summoned 3 monsters, set 2 & passed. Hologram Man summoned 2 monsters then sacrificed them to summon a legend card, Blue Eyes White Dragon.

Not much information on legend cards except the fact that 1 can only exist in a deck. He used a spell to get rid of all Yugas monsters. Yugas turn begins & per new rules draw a net hand of 5 cards. After which summons his ace monster Seven Roads Magician & powers it up to overwhelm the Blue Eyes & won the duel.

A highlight for me was when yuga was trying to finish the installation of the new rush duel & the battery life of his duel disk isn’t enough to duel hologram man. So Gakuto runs to get the bike from before that yuga had to charge the duel disk so yuga is able to duel. This shows that even though Gakuto is a very by the book person his interest in the new & helping out more of who he is internally.

Another moment was when yuga was asked the reason for installing the new rules. Yuga wanted to make people smile because everyone was dormant from dueling the same way due to the rules set by goha corp. The ending song shows the team enjoying life & having fun as if rush duels saved their lives.

Overall the 1st episode was really good & showed so many things but left a lot of questions. We met the characters & the goal of the main character, we got a glimpse the overall world & the restrictions that govern it. I’m interested for the future of this show and can wait for what’s to come. As we move forward always remember that if all else, Live Vicariously Through Positivity.
