Weak artificial intelligence (weak AI) is an approach to research and development considering that AI has been and will remain a synthetic model of human cognitive functions and that computers can appear to be thinking. Still, they aren't cognizant in any way. The weak AI is merely acting upon the rules it is bound to by rules it is imposed by and cannot exceed the regulations. An example of weak AI is characters in computer games that behave in a manner consistent with the rules of their game but are unable to go beyond what they can do.

One excellent example of a weak AI is Apple's Siri, powered by the Internet to serve as a massive database.
