Vanessa Marshall Shares Thoughts On Potential Hera Syndulla Live-Action Role

From The Voice Of Hera

So with everyone's favorite Twi’lek pilot Hera showing up again in The Bad Batch, people have gotten to thinking about whether or not she will show up anywhere else, such as any of the upcoming live-action Star Wars projects.

Even Hera's voice actress Vanessa Marshall has weighed in on this. Of course Marshall is not just famous for Star Wars; she is a famous voice actress who has loaned her talents to a lot of titles, including a couple of major franchises like Rick and Morty, Metal Gear Solid, and Mortal Kombat. Marshall first joined Star Wars doing voice-over work for Star Wars Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast, released in 2002, where she played Jan Ors. She is, however, best known in this franchise for her portrayal of Hera Syndulla in 2014's animated series Rebels. Hera is the Twi’lek pilot of the Ghost and daughter of The Clone Wars character Cham Syndulla. She's even referenced a few times in Rogue One with the appearance of her astromech Chopper and most notably when she's name-dropped over the speakers on Yavin 4. And the Ghost shows up during the Battle of Scarif.

Marshall has recently, however, returned to the role in a couple recent episodes of The Bad Batch, as was outlined at the start of this article. Following her return, Marshall did an interview with Star Wars News Net where she was asked her thoughts on a live-action Hera, and this is what she had to say.

"Oh boy I can’t even answer that question. I mean, I would defer to Dave Filoni… I wouldn’t even know the answer to that question, honestly. I trust him so much that wherever he would want to see Hera, is where Hera should be. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge Mandalorian fan. I love seeing Ahsoka, Bo-Katan… If Hera just rolled up, that would be outstanding. But again, I trust Lucasfilm’s judgment. Every time I imagine what could be, when it’s executed, it’s far better than anything I could ever come up with. So, wishful thinking, she ends up in any of them that works for me."

Some might say that Hera making a live-action debut would be wishful thinking. But would it? I am not so sure because, when you stand back and take a look at what is scheduled to come, it starts to become less wishful and more probable. Dave Filoni, who created Hera, is now at the helm of his own live-action Ahsoka series, a show in which Hera's crewmate Sabine Wren is rumored to be making an appearance. With that in mind, seeing a live-action Hera does not seem all that far-fetched

Whilst Ahsoka seems to me to be the most likely option for Hera to make her live action debut, there are a couple other live-action series to consider. She could, for example, show up in Obi-Wan Kenobi. It is possible given the timeline of the show. However, that show is more heavily focused on Kenobi and what he was up to between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. The more natural choice from the two other upcoming live-action shows is, of course, Andor, which will focus on Cassian Andor, the Rebel hero. so when that is taken into account, and given how involved Hera was in the formation of the Rebel Alliance, it seems to me at least that Andor or Ahsoka are definitely the most likely.
