A new cowboy is in Art town

With the emergence of AI, it becomes easier for artists to express themselves without having to go through the process of creating an artwork. This can be seen as either a positive or negative thing, depending on how it is used. The role of AI in art creation and the relationship between the artist and AI are still evolving.

A lot of critics believe that AI will disrupt the art industry because it enables artists to express themselves more easily. It also eliminates some costly tasks such as drawing or painting which leaves less time for artists to have a chance at making a living from their art

Some people believe that this new type of technology will replace humans in society and therefore there won’t be any need for human-based art

However, other people think that this is just one more tool for an artist who wants to expand their horizons.

Let’s take a step back and put into context what artificial intelligence is, how it works, its modern constraints and how artists can use Artificial intelligence concepts.

What is AI?

Artificial intelligence has been in the discussion for a while now. But what is it?

Artificial intelligence is a branch of computer science that includes the development of intelligent computer systems in order to solve problems that are not necessarily related to just computers but are in any domain or industry.

AI has been used in various applications, including data mining, machine learning, robotics, medical diagnosis and treatment, and many others.

Many of AI’s breakthrough technologies, such as “natural language processing,” “deep learning,” and “predictive analytics,” are well-known buzzwords.

Computer systems that can grasp the meaning of human language, learn from experience, and make predictions, thanks to cutting-edge technologies.

“Imitating artistic approaches also involves simulating human thinking and reasoning, particularly creative thinking,” as one critic of computational creativity puts it. For now, algorithms and information processing systems are not able to achieve this. In very narrow circumstances, these systems can come near to, and even outperform, human performance, but only in extremely controlled environments with a limited range of parameters. A system of Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI) would be able to outperform humans in every way. This would involve things like making judgments, making reasonable decisions, and even producing art and forming emotional bonds. Despite scientific advances, ASIs remain theoretical and still belong to the world of science fiction.

What is the Role of an Artist?

An artist is someone who creates original works of art. They can include installations, sculptures, paintings, drawings, pottery, performances, photographs, videos, or any other medium. Artists are a vehicle for expressing universal emotion. An artist has the ability to be sensitive to things and express this in the paint, gesture, or color. The artist feels the atmosphere of a place, a moment or the memory of a feeling.

“art is the expression of an idea in some sort of physical form”

Some artists may create art as a form of self-expression and to communicate their feelings and thoughts. For some people, the creative process may be more important than what they produce.

What is the Future of Art with AI?

The future of art is depicted as both “alive” and “dead.”

The postmodernists saw the future of art as dead, whereas the modernists saw it as alive. However, with AI, art has taken on a new life. It has outlived its creators and found new meaning in synthetic realities.

Art has always been seen as a way to capture the time period in which it was made. But now with AI, it can also be seen through the lens of science fiction. Art can be made into futuristic concepts like cyborgs or artificial intelligence that wouldn’t be possible without AI to create them.

Conversely, this creative spirit is shaped, stimulated, and built around events and experiences throughout the individual’s life. Thus, artistic creation can be seen as a way of creating an innovative work from an individual’s interpretation of his or her existence and environment. It can then be thought that artificial intelligence is able to produce an interpretation of its learning to produce its own idea of a concept. The artwork of an artificial intelligence will depend, as for an artist, on its learning and the images encountered. The difference between an artificial intelligence and an artist is the origin of its experiences. An artist will live and develop creativity around events in an uncertain environment. Conversely, it is the artist who will determine the environment and the learning rules of the artificial intelligence, which makes it dependent on the artist and places it as a tool. Just as an artist trains his hand to wield the brush to paint, he will train the artificial intelligence to produce a unique work of art that reflects its creator. As with any form of art, and even more so in this day and age, it is no longer the final result that counts, but also and above all the discourse and the idea that we associate with our work. The artist must be able to justify the use of AI in his creative process

How can AI Assist Artists with their Creative Processes?

What is the role of AI in Art Creation? AI tools are really creative!

Many existing artist software packages are beginning to include some rudimentary AI to aid in the automation of simple repetitive activities. The goal is to enable people to use their products more quickly and eliminate the need for time-consuming manual operations.

As AI and machine learning (ML) elements in digital art packages get more complex, new tools for artists to experiment within creative and unanticipated ways become available. AI-based solutions can also be utilized to produce something that an artist would never have imagined feasible previously.

AI is assisting creatives in a number of ways, including assisting them in imitating the styles of renowned painters from the past. This capacity to imitate and reproduce can be useful in the creation as well as in the restoration of a work.

Many people are speculating about the emergence of a new genre of art called AI-art. This new genre, which is more appropriately referred to as neural network art, is created utilizing sophisticated algorithms.

These neural networks employ a generative adversarial network (GAN), and the results are both creepy and interesting.

Humans define the coding underlying these GANs, as well as the goal’s defined parameters, which keep AI and GANs as creative tools.

The AI assistants can create art, music, and even films for an artist. We should consider the implications of this since it’s something new in the industry. Nowadays, some artists are using AI to make their work better or more accessible to the public.

To take away

  • Artists express ideas/feelings into physical art
  • Artificial intelligence is a tool, not an entity
  • AI can imitate and reproduce an artist style
  • AI-powered tools help artists be more productive and creative
  • AI is and will remain a tool for the artist, and will not replace the artist

Conclusion

Recent scientific advances in the world of artificial intelligence have led to the development of new algorithms and high-performance tools. This new relationship between humans and artificial intelligence as a tool offers a new perspective of creation and reflection for artists. Through AI, the design and production of artworks will be facilitated and the possibilities, sometimes never imagined before, will be accessible to all. As the brush is to painting and the piano is to music, the role of AI in art creation is only an instrument of creation, not the creator. And its creative potential depends on how humans use it.
