It's All Laid Out Here

It is a very exciting time to be a fan of the Star Wars books and comics. Starting on January 5, Lucasfilm will be launching Star Wars: The High Republic, and will be introducing fans to a new era of Star Wars set 200 years before the events of The Phantom Menace. Since announcing The High Republic in February of 2020, Lucasfilm has been releasing details about the project in interviews and promotional material. One of the most exciting aspects of the project is a brand-new cast of Jedi characters. The folks over at Star Wars LibriComics have taken the info about the various Jedi and complied it into a great infographic. The chart list things like what project each Jedi will appear in, and other info like rank and lightsaber color.

Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule, and A Test of Courage, a junior novel by Justina Ireland, will kick off Star Wars: The High Republic on January 5. On January 6, Marvel Comics kicks off the first comic book in the series Star Wars: The High Republic. On February 2, Into the Dark, a young adult novel by Claudia Gray, will be released. The second comic book series of The High Republic era, The High Republic Adventures, will follow on February 21.

All the info released so far about the series points to two major inciting events: The Great Disaster, which impacts hyperspace travel throughout the Republic, and invasion of The Nihil, anarchistic marauders, who begin to wreak havoc across the galaxy. All this at a time that the Jedi are setting up Starlight Beacon, a space station base on the frontier of Republic space. The projects listed above are the first phase of Star Wars: The High Republic, and will focus on how the Jedi deal with the disaster and invasion happening at the same time. The infographic above not only does a great job of showing which Jedi will be showing up in each project, but also shows the relationships and links between each character. These relationships could play an important role during these trying times for the Jedi Order and the Republic as a whole.

The infographic is easy to understand. The key at the bottom lets the reader know what each circle, color, or line means. It really is helpful to be able to easily see what book or comic a Jedi will appear in, along with their rank, and lightsaber color. For example let's look at Avar Kriss. The graphic shows that she will appear in Light of the Jedi. She has a green circle around her icon, which indicates that she uses a green lightsaber. She also has another thin circle around the green circle. This indicates that she is a Jedi Master. Finally, there is a dotted line connecting her with Stellan Gios, showing that they have a personal relationship. This info can really help readers keep everyone and their connections straight with so many titles releasing quickly in early 2021.

It seems that Star Wars: The High Republic is kicking off with a large cast of Jedi, to say nothing of the other characters we are sure to meet, and one has to wonder if this cast will begin to be whittle down to a tighter focus on certain characters. Maybe this chart, and the info it holds, will reveal what characters will get the most attention based on their connections to other Jedi.

We still know so little about the characters and the story of Star Wars: The High Republic, but that is all about to change. Starting January 5, a whole new era of Star Wars will open up to us, and that is so exciting. May the Force be with us all.

Star Wars: The High Republic kicks off with Light of the Jedi and A Test of Courage on January 5t, 2021.
