'The Mandalorian' To Get A Spring 2022 Release?

Could It Be Coming Sooner Than Expected?

Since the ending of the second season of The Mandalorian, fans have been waiting with bated breath for both The Book of Boba Fett and season three of The Mandalorian. The season finale teased big things for Din Djarin and Boba Fett at the end of episode, and things have basically been silent on progress for the new season and show. However, if the newly leaked information proves to be true, fans may not have to wait much longer to see the next installments for Boba Fett, Din Djarin, and the rest of Mando’s motley crew.

Initially, the release date for The Book of Boba Fett was set for December 2021, and later details revealed that The Mandalorian season three wouldn’t start filming until after The Book of Boba Fett had finished filming. This led people and news sites to believe late 2022 at the earliest. However, a new leak from the site Edelweiss+ suggests that season three could come as early as spring of next year. A blurb on their website stated,

“The Book of Boba Fett premieres on Disney+ December 2021. Season 3 of The Mandalorian premiers on Disney+ Spring 2022. Features photos and dialogue from the hit series. Graphic Novels are a major growth category.”

As stated above, this blurb comes from Edelweiss+, but it was shared via the Star Wars Leaks subreddit. Edelweiss+ is a marketing platform used frequently in the book industry, and this specific blurb is promoting a graphic novel based around Boba Fett. It is likely that this information was made public by accident, and then it was probably quickly grabbed and thrown onto the Star Wars Leaks subreddit. However, Edelweiss+ is a big marketing tool for written works, and it has been used by major companies such as the Disney Publishing Group, Diamond Books, DC Entertainment, and VIZ Media. With Disney owning Star Wars, it would make sense that they would use Edelweiss+ to market their new Boba Fett graphic novel. It also makes the leak all the more reliable.

Does this mean fans can expect season three to premiere in spring next year? It is unclear. The Book of Boba Fett just wrapped filming, and season three of the other series was stated to not be set to start production until after Boba Fett wrapped. That would mean filming would start around October of 2021, and that would make the spring 2022 release virtually impossible. Plus, this blurb could have written before the pandemic went into full swing, and as a result, may no longer be accurate because of rescheduling that had to happen due to the pandemic. As with most leaks, this is almost all speculation.

As seen with Marvel, Disney has been extremely good about keeping release schedules on track. However, this changed for films like Black Widow (causing a domino effect for future films) and the Marvel Disney+ TV shows due to the pandemic. If season three really isn’t set to start production until after Boba Fett, then a fall release for next year would make the most sense, and Disney would probably strictly adhere to this schedule. They also have several other Star Wars shows set to release next year, and it is unlikely that they would want the shows to compete with each other. However, there is the possibility that The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian season three lean heavily on each other, and the filming overlapped with one another. That would mean that, depending on how much simultaneous filming was done, The Mandalorian season three could actually make a Spring 2022 release. However, as stated above, that is purely speculation, and there is no guarantee that they filmed both shows at the same time. In the end, it appears The Book of Boba Fett will make its December premiere, and that will bring all new answers and questions about The Mandalorian season three.
