Mando's going home! Or at least, to the home world of his people. In The second season of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin promised Bo-Katan Kryze help in reclaiming Mandalore in exchange for her help rescuing Grogu, the force-sensitive foundling in his care. While Din threw a spanner in the works with this plan by winning the Darksaber (and accidental leadership of all Mandalorians), the Book of Boba Fett reveals that, since Din removed his helmet to farewell Grogu, he will have to travel to the distant mines on Mandalore to regain his status among the Death Watch Mandalorians.

This quest will likely form at least part of the upcoming third season of The Mandalorian, and could bring Mando into contact with other surviving Mandalorian families. In Mandalorian culture, the larger, more powerful families are known as Houses, while the smaller families or 'Clans', serve the Houses as vassals.

Here are the main Mandalorian Houses and Clans you should be aware of for The Mandalorian season 3.

House Vizsla

Notable members: Tarre Vizsla, Pre Vizsla, Paz Vizsla.

House Vizsla initially grew to prominence through the actions of Tarre Vizsla, a Mandalorian who also trained as a Jedi Knight. Tarre created the Darksaber, and used it to unite all Mandalorians under a single leader, becoming the first Manda'lor. After Tarre's death, the Darksaber was claimed by the Jedi Council, but later stolen by House Vizsla descendants.

The Saber eventually fell into the possession of Pre Vizsla. Disagreeing with the pacifist ways of New Mandalore under the leadership of Duchess Satine Kryze, Pre formed the Death Watch, a group devoted to the warrior ways of old Mandalore. Many other members of House Vizsla were also part of this group. The Death Watch was split in two following Pre Vizsla's death at the hands of Darth Maul.

Many Vizslas who survived the following battles became members of the Death Watch's next incarnation, the cult-like Children of the Watch, who survived the empire's Purge of Mandalore while cloistered on Concordia. Among them is Paz Vizsla, now likely one of the last Vizslas standing. Paz's most recent notable act was to challenge Din Djarin for ownership of his ancestor Tarre's Darksaber, but he was defeated.

House Kryze

Notable members: Duchess Satine Kryze, Bo-Katan Kryze, Korkie Kryze.

During the Clone Wars, Duchess Satine Kryze took leadership of Mandalore as head of the New Mandalore government, with hopes of guiding her people towards a more peaceful future. Satine's nephew Korkie agreed with her, and was being groomed by Satine as a future leader. The Jedi wanted to preserve the new Government, leaving Satine under the protection of Obi-Wan Kenobi. This has led to a fan theory that Korkie is actually the secret love-child of Obi-Wan and Satine, rather than Satine's nephew, though this has never been confirmed.

Unfortunately, Satine's younger sister, Bo-Katan, clung to the warrior ways of old Mandalore, opposing her sister and joining Pre Vizsla's Death Watch. The sisters reconcile during Maul's invasion of Mandalore, but Satine is tragically killed soon after. As Satine's sister, many New Mandalore loyalists supported Bo-Katan as Mandalore's new ruler, but she was quickly ousted from the top job in favor of Imperial puppet Gar Saxon.

Bo-Katan eventually aided a Mandalorian-Rebel alliance in taking control of Mandalore in the later stages of the Galactic Rebellion, and took the title of Manda'lor after Sabine Wren presented her with the Darksaber. Tragically, the Purge of Mandalore occurred soon after, and the Darksaber was lost. The Children of the Watch blame Bo-Katan for this, for taking the Saber instead of winning it in battle.

"She lost her Way. And we lost our world."

When meeting Din Djarin in the midst of her quest to regain the Darksaber, Bo-Katan believes she is the last of her line, leaving Korkie's fate unknown. We'll most likely see Bo-Katan next during The Mandalorian season three, possibly wanting to challenge Mando for the Darksaber.

Clan Wren

Notable Members: Sabine Wren, Ursa Wren.

At the time of the Clone Wars, Clan Wren was officially a vassal of House Vizsla, however, Ursa Wren was a member of Bo-Katan Kryze's Nite Owls, and followed her in leaving the Death Watch after Darth Maul took over. Soon after, however, Ursa submitted to the Empire's rule of Mandalore through Gar Saxon, seeing it as the necessary move to keep her family safe.

Ursa's daughter, Sabine Wren, initially attended the Imperial Academy on Mandalore. She proved to be a talented weapons designer, but when she sees one of her creations, an arc pulse generator able to disintegrate Mandalorian armor, turned against her people, Sabine flees the academy and denounces the Empire. Ursa is forced to brand Sabine a traitor, exiling her from Mandalore. As punishment for Sabine's actions, her Father was taken hostage by Saxon, and her younger brother Tristan forced to serve as one of Saxon's Imperial Super Commandos.

After a brief period as a Bounty Hunter, Sabine joins the Rebel Alliance, joining the crew of the Ghost. While on a mission with fellow rebel Ezra Bridger, she stumbles upon the Darksaber, and, with a bit of encouragement and training from her fellow rebels, returns to Mandalore in the hope she can use the saber to unite her people as Tarre Vizsla once did.

Ursa initially rejects her daughter's claim to the Darksaber, because she had not won it in battle. However, Sabine soon proves her worth when she defeats Gar Saxon. Sabine allows Saxon to live, but when he tries to attack her afterwards, Ursa finally turns on him, shooting Saxon dead to save her daughter's life. From that point onwards, Clan Wren play a central role in Mandalore's rebellion against Imperial rule.

Sabine survived the Purge, as she was on Lothal fulfilling a promise to Ezra that she would look after the planet for him. Unfortunately, it is not yet known what fate befell the rest of her family. While Sabine is confirmed to make her live-action debut in the upcoming Ahsoka series, with her ties to both Mandalore and the Darksaber, it is easy to imagine her appearing in The Mandalorian as well.

Clan Mudhorn

Notable Members: Din Djarin, Grogu.

As a foundling raised by the Children of the Watch, Din Djarin does not initially belong to a Clan, and has little interest in forming one. This all changes when a force-sensitive child, Grogu, comes into his care. As the Armorer informs Din, by the ancient Way, Grogu is considered a foundling, and therefore, until such time as he is returned to his own kind or comes of age, Din must act as his Father.

"You will be a Clan of two."

The unlikely duo have been dubbed Clan Mudhorn, due to the signet on Din's armor. Bonding over the course of their adventures, Din is heartbroken when he eventually hands Grogu over to Luke Skywalker. However, during the final two episodes of The Book of Boba Fett, Grogu chooses to give up his Jedi training in favour of returning to Mando.

Clan Mudhorn have reunited for more adventures. This is the way. Bring on The Mandalorian season three!
