The Last Jedi Review (Non-Spoiler)

Now, I'm not Variety or Holly Willoughby, so you'll find no spoilers here.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the eighth film in the Star Wars franchise and the sequel to 2015's very successful The Force Awakens, but does it match that? Does it surpass it? In some ways yes, and in some no.

Before going into this film, it's important to know that it is just over two and a half hours long, meaning with adverts and trailers before you're going to be spending a good three hours sitting in a dark room...personally that wasn't an issue because of my love for Star Wars, but some people might not be able to sit there for that long or be able to hold their attention for that long (maybe wait for the blu-ray if that's you?). However, the majority of this film is compelling and the time just flies by.

I'll Start with Some Cons:

The first is one of the plot threads (again no spoils) but I felt that this part of the story was unnecessary and was only really included because they needed to have these characters doing something whilst the more interesting stuff was happening elsewhere. That's not to say that this thread wasn't good, it was, but it just didn't fit with the rest of the movie.

The second con, and I've already touched on this, is the time. This is a two and a half hour movie so there is, undoubtedly, going to be some moments where the movie kind of drops off, but luckily these are few and far between.

Now, onto the Pros:

This movie has, by far, more pros than cons. Not only does this movie add something new to the franchise but it takes it in many different directions. It completely twists what some people thought were going to happen and it does so with grace.

The returning characters in this are also fantastic. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver could carry this film on their own. Their moments interacting with each other and the character development they have is fascinating to watch.

Not only that but there are plenty of surprises and shocks along the way, some that literally made the audience (myself included) gasp when they saw them.

Surprisingly, there is also quite a bit of humour in this movie. Luke is more humorous than you might have expected and there are some really good moments with the droids in the film that I wasn't expecting. Some of the humour did fall flat a bit, but not that often and it didn't really hamper my viewing of the movie.

And finally....Porgs. Yes, the creatures that has been marketed to death around the world. The creatures that people were worried they would be the new Jar Jar or Ewoks...It's safe to say they're nothing like that. They're adorable, cuddly and they don't get in the way of the plot at all. They provide some really great moments to the film but they don't influence it at all, and that's all I could really have asked for.

Overall, I can't recommend seeing Star Wars: The Last Jedi enough. I had loads of fun, I got emotional and there were moments when my heart was almost beating out of my chest. Please, go and see it
