The Hunt for the Hunter: 10 Actors Who Could Star in the Boba Fett Solo Movie

Ever since the resurgence of Star Wars, fans have been begging for a Boba Fett solo movie, and it seems that the time has finally come. Back in 2014 this movie was rumored to happen with director Josh Trank and Michael B. Jordan as Boba Fett, but after the disaster that was Fantastic Four, it came as no surprise that the whole project was scrapped. However, it seems that under the steady hands of Logan director James Mangold, the film will finally come to fruition. With no actors rumored to be attached to the project yet, that leaves a clean slate to start from, and I think I have a few select people who could play the part uniquely well.

1. Manu Bennett

One aspect that was very unique about Boba Fett in the prequel trilogy is that he was depicted by actor Daniel Logan, who is of Maori descent. The Maori people are the natives of New Zealand, and while this didn't mesh together well with the original trilogy, I personally feel that it is important for the Maori people to stay represented in the role. Manu Bennett stands out for this role to me because not only is he also of Maori descent, but he's such a prominent action star as well. You may recognize him from the long running TV series Arrow, where he actually played a well known mercenary in the form of Deathstroke, and I feel that is the perfect performance to propel him into a role as Boba Fett.

2. Cliff Curtis

While actors of Maori descent are hard to come by in Hollywood, I feel like Cliff Curtis has enough experience as an action star to take on the coveted bounty hunter. If you're a fan of Fear: The Walking Dead, then you remember the evolution of Curtis's character, and how well he played a merciless killer towards the end of his time on the show. I feel like this performance mixed with the accuracy of appearance could be just enough to actually nab Cliff Curtis the role.

3. Karl Urban

While it would be nice to have a Maori actor stay in the role, it's highly unlikely to happen, but that doesn't mean it can't still go to a New Zealander. Karl Urban is one of the most prolific action stars of our time, doing films such as Judge Dredd and Thor: Ragnarok, meaning that he could easily play a grizzled bounty hunter in Boba Fett. Urban has made a career off of playing disgruntled and gritty characters, and I feel that he may be destined to add Fett to that list.

4. Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman may not be from New Zealand, but the Australian accent is close, and having already worked with James Mangold several times could give him a shoe in for the role. Let's face it, Jackman is the ideal gritty action star to play a character like Boba Fett, and no one would object to seeing him as a badass intergalactic bounty hunter. This is the kind of fresh action role he could be looking for at this point in his career, and I think everyone would be excited to see him collaborate with the likes of Mangold again.

5. Sam Worthington

Keeping the trend of Australian actors going, do you remember when Sam Worthington was the biggest action star in Hollywood? After doing films such as Avatar and Clash of the Titans, Worthington was the man that everyone wanted in their movie. Although he might not be as hot of a prospect as he was, he's recently managed to stage a comeback in his career, and I feel that his wealth of experience in action roles could be what gets him in the running to play Boba Fett.

6. Jon Hamm

Jon Hamm is one of the only American actors on this list, and that is simply because he's already played Boba Fett before. Well, not exactly. Hamm lent his deep, masculine voice to an audio book performance of Fett, but that's honestly half of the character. Hamm has the grizzly look to be taken seriously as a dangerous killer, and once the helmet goes on, we already have proof that he will sound absolutely excellent as the sinister villain.

7. Tom Hardy

When it comes to popular action stars that can look rough and mean, it doesn't get much better than Tom Hardy. As far as the original trilogy is concerned, I don't know if there is a more perfect choice for the role than Hardy considering that the original Boba Fett actor was British, and considering that Hardy remains to be a favorite when it comes to dark action heroes. While Hardy has technically been in the Star Wars franchise already as a Stormtrooper cameo, I actually think that may give him an edge in getting cast as Boba Fett, and he's proven once before that he has what it takes to don a set of space armor.

8. Charlie Hunnam

Speaking of popular British action stars, Charlie Hunnam can certainly play gritty characters as well as anyone else. You may recognize Hunnam from such projects as Sons of Anarchy and Pacific Rim, where he played characters that were not only conflicted, but also had dark pasts filled with violence. I feel like Charlie Hunnam would be a good contender for role because he has enough experience playing this type of character, yet we haven't seen him in so many action movies that his performance would be a carbon copy of a previous one.

9. Jai Courtney

While Jai Courtney may seem a little more clean cut than the other actors on this list, his role in Suicide Squad has proved that he can play characters that are dark and homicidal as well. Courtney has gotten his fair share of big action roles, but I feel like he's an overall underappreciated star, and a role as Boba Fett could easily fix that. He's no stranger to starring in huge sci-fi franchises, and I think that his extraordinary acting credentials make him a dark horse candidate for this film.

10. Jason Momoa

This may seem a little farfetched to some, but what action movie isn't Jason Momoa starring in these days? While he isn't of Maori descent, his strong Samoan heritage gives him a similar complexion to that of the young Boba Fett, and casting Momoa would be an all around smart move to get people to want to see this movie. This would likely be a much different incarnation of the character than what we've ever seen before, and if it were to happen, I wouldn't be surprised if Momoa was the best version we've seen to date.
