'The High Republic' Could Introduce A Deadly Anti-Jedi Weapon

A Game-Changer?

The Jedi have gone up against some terrifying and destructive weapons in the history of the galaxy. The most famous of these may be the Death Star, and the most devastating of these is their own hubris. It seems like no matter the era of Jedi there is always a new evil with an extremely deadly weapon trying to rule the galaxy. We have seen it happen in films, series, books, comics, and games. However, the IDW Star Wars comic series The High Republic Adventures may be gearing up to introduce the deadliest weapon we have seen the Jedi face, and this could potentially have lasting ramifications on the Jedi Order and the galaxy.

This is should not be confused with Cavan Scott’s The High Republic series being done at Marvel. The High Republic Adventures is written by Daniel José Older and is being published by IDW. If the names of these books weren’t confusing enough, the two series also run concurrent with each other, but in fairness, the IDW series is aimed at a younger audience than the Marvel series. Although they seem to have one thing in common, and that is the antagonistic Nihil.

In the latest issue of The High Republic Adventures, the Nihil appear to have completed a weapon that could be used to completely decimate the Jedi, and I mean that literally as well as figuratively. We have known since the first issue of High Republic Adventures that the Nihil are trying to piece together a weapon to help them stand against the Jedi. Apparently, based on some of the dialogue in the eighth issue, the Nihil have succeeded in finding and putting together this weapon. At least, that seems to be the case.

There is actually very little information currently revealed about the weapon they have. All we know for sure is that it has the capabilities to destroy a Jedi completely, and it might also have the power to wipe out the Jedi Order itself. The rumor the Jedi have heard is that it has the power to turn a Jedi to dust, and this is shown when one of the characters asks if that is how Master Loden died. His death is confirmed by another character, but he does not state the cause of death. If this is true, it could be one of the deadliest weapons the Jedi have faced in Star Wars. This is mostly just speculation though. Even in the story, there seems to be no real appearance of the weapons, and it is mostly just referenced by other characters. While this does make for good storytelling, it provides unreliable details about the weapon at best. All that can be said for certain is that the Nihil have a weapon that they have seemingly been searching for since the start of the series, and it may have deadly repercussions for the Jedi if they can not stop it.

This secret weapon is definitely a subplot for the series, so I am not convinced it will have a lasting impact on the Jedi Order. I think it will bring together or further push apart the two main characters of the series Zeen and Krix. That being said, this series is full of surprises. For a series targeted at younger kids, it can genuinely keep you guessing and provides interesting twists and subversions. It is a fantastic series, and some fans think it is superior to the Marvel counterpart. The series is still ongoing, and the weapon may prove more deadly and arrive sooner than any of the characters think. For fans, it will arrive on October 6, so we won’t have to wait much longer to get more information on this Jedi-killing weapon.
