There's been good news for Star Wars fans, with the news that a spin-off from the hit Clone Wars animated Series, titled The Bad Batch, is being produced for Disney plus.

The newly announced series isn't the only thing fans have to look forward to. Here's a quick round up of all the new Star Wars content heading our way in the next few years.

'The Mandalorian', Season 2

The Mandalorian, the first ever live-action Star Wars TV series, proved a hit for Disney Plus in the early days of the streaming service. The series follows Din Djarin, a bounty hunter, and the Mandalorian of the series title Din's life is changed when a mission brings him into contact with The Child, a mysterious young force-wielding creature. The events of the series take place between Return Of The Jedi and The Force Awakens.

Thankfully, unlike many other series, production on The Mandalorian was not affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, as season two had already been filmed. The second season, set to premiere in October, is very strongly rumoured to feature the first live-action appearance of Ahsoka Tano. If true, this will be an interesting addition for fans. Chronologically speaking, Ahsoka was last seen at the end of Star Wars: Rebels, around five years before The Mandalorian begins.

The next series we're most likely to see is the newly announced The Bad Batch, currently slated to premiere on Disney Plus in 2021. The series is a spin-off from The Clone Wars, following a group of characters introduced in Clone Wars recent final season. Clone Force 99, aka 'The Bad Batch' consists of Wrecker, Cross-Hair, Hunter, and Tech, a squad of clone troopers with 'desirable' mutations. Echo, a clone with cybernetic enhancements, joined the squad during the last season of The Clone Wars.

The Bad Batch will follow Clone Force 99 taking on mercenary jobs after the rise of the Empire. It has been theorised that the squad's mutations may have resulted in the failure of the behaviour chips that forced the other clones to carry out Order 66, the extermination of the Jedi. The series is being developed by Dave Filoni, the creator of The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels.

Cassian Andor series

Among the other projects coming to Disney Plus is a series centred on Cassian Andor, a rebel Captain first introduced in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The series, described as a 'rousing spy thriller', will follow Cassian during the early days of the rebellion, five years before the events of Rogue One.

Diego Luna will reprise the role of Cassian in the series, along with Genevieve O'Reilly as Mon Mothma, and Alan Tudyk as the voice of K2-SO. Stellan Skarsgard, Kyle Stoller, and Denise Gough will appear in unknown roles. The series was originally expected to debut sometime during Disney Plus's second year, however, as the current pandemic has prevented the series from beginning production, we should probably expect some delays.

Obi-Wan Kenobi series

For Star Wars fans, one of the most exciting moments of the 2019 D23 Expo was the announcement that an Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off series was officially in development for Disney Plus. Ewan McGregor will reprise the role of Obi-Wan, which he played in all three prequels. The series is said to take place eight years after Revenge Of The Sith, exploring Obi-Wan's years on Tattooine.

Unfortunately, the series has run into a few issues. Original writer Hossen Amini's departure from the series caused filming to be pushed back from 2020 to 2021. However, it is worth noting that with the COVID-19 pandemic, this probably would have happened anyway. According to Ewan McGregor, the series is definitely still happening, and will likely begin filming as soon as it is safe to do so.

Untitled Female-Centric series

Also in the pipeline is a female-centric Star Wars series, being developed by Leslye Headland, creator of Netflix's Russian Doll. Little is known about the project so far, except that it will take place at a different point in the Star Wars timeline than anything we've seen before.

It is unknown whether the series will use characters we know, or introduce new ones.

A Taika Waititi helmed film

In May, it was announced that Academy Award winner Taika Waititi, Director of the Marvel hit Thor: Ragnarok, will direct and co-write a new theatrical Star Wars film. Waititi is no stranger to the Star Wars universe, voicing bounty-hunting droid IG-11 in The Mandalorian, and directing 'Redemption', the series widely acclaimed first season finale. Little is known about the new film, though rumours suggest it may be set during the same period as the Knights Of The Old Republic video games.

Unfortunately, we may be waiting for the film for a while. Production on Waititi's next big project, Thor: Love And Thunder, has been delayed by the pandemic. He'll probably want to get work on Thor complete before he can truly dive in to Star Wars.

Even with the delays, there's plenty for fans to look forward to. We'll all be travelling back to a galaxy far, far, away very soon.
