'The Book Of Boba Fett' Series Gets Huge Filming Update!

After years and years of fans waiting, it seems Lucasfilm is finally giving a fan favorite original trilogy character the on screen treatment he deserves. Even if it is on the small screen. Yes, Boba Fett, the infamous bounty hunter from the Star Wars universe, is back. First showing up again in Season 2 of The Mandalorian, it was announced at the end that he would appear in his spin off show, The Book Of Boba Fett, and it sent fans wild.

To a lot of people, it does seem strange that the character has a huge fanbase. Fett first showed up in an animated segment of the Star Wars Holiday Special and then made his big screen debut in The Empire Strikes Back, appearing first in a scene featuring other bounty hunters (some of which have also gone on to appear later in the franchise) being hired by Darth Vader. There was nothing particularly special about him at this point, but he does continue to show up throughout the second half of the film and is the one to take Han Solo, frozen in carbonite, to Jabba the Hutt for the bounty on his head. He would then appear again in Return of the Jedi. This is where it gets a bit silly, though, as he meets his demise in the first half of the film in an extremely lackluster way.

Luke Skywalker arrives at Jabba's Palace to rescue Han, but not all seems to be going according to plan, causing both him and Han to be put to death by being fed to the mighty Sarlaac pit, which could digest them over hundreds of years (talk about over complicating it). Before Luke is made to jump in, he is able to use Artoo to fire his trusty lightasber to his hand, and he begins taking down enemies left, right, and center. Han, on the other hand, is currently still suffering from temporary blindness caused by the recent unfreezing, and he accidentally hits Fett's jetpack, causing it to malfunction, sending him flying into Jabba's sail barge and down into the Sarlaac pit, where it's very clear that he is swallowed. That was the end of Boba Fett. Or so we thought.

The character was so iconic, thanks mostly to his easily recognizable look. He appeared extensively in other forms of media set both before and after his "death" in ROTJ. Fans were given stories saying that he escaped the pit. However, in 2014, these stories were classified as Legends.

Outside of his appearance in The Mandalorian, he also appeared in canon throughout the prequel trilogy era. Firstly, in Attack of the Clones, where we get his backstory and discover he is actually an unaltered clone of bounty hunter Jango Fett, the template used for the clone army. Secondly, throughout The Clone Wars animated series set between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Fun fact for some of you who may not know: the actor who plays Fett now is Temuera Morrison. He was also who played Jango Fett, Boba's dad.

With this new series, we are about to welcome him back to canon again, but this time after his supposed death. Even though this has not been addressed as yet it's sure to be brought up at some point during the shows run to help keep fans invested and find out just how he did it in the end. Like most of the upcoming Star Wars shows, details are very scarce, however our update today seems to suggest we are that much closer to getting a release date.

The update comes from the Bespin Bulletin Instagram account. They have stated that it seems that the project has wrapped filming as ''the sets have since been taken down'' at the train yard in Los Angeles which is used as the main filming location for this and The Mandalorian. Considering the series has a release date of December 2021, it would make sense that they would be close to or at the end of filming. Bespin Bulletin has also stated, though, that filming could still be taking place at The Volume. Either way, it's still a good indicator to say they are on track with the schedule.
