The August Planet

Fred Godfrey lived on "The August Planet", a place 100 million light miles from Earth. It is a place with interesting ruins and fascinating cities. He lived in the City of Asstone. It was the place where he was born and he loved it because of its history of granting wishes to really sincere and kind people.

He was a really nice person, but he was also really broken and sad because he was rather poor. Many knew Fred as an excessive coffee drinker with exceptionally big feet and peculair looking hands. His friends saw him as very passive-aggressive, lonely and a very optimistic outsider. Once, he had even helped a gifted toddler cross a busy road, a contest that netted him $5,000. That's the sort of man he was, always after money in some form or fashion. Right now, he was rather depressed due to his circumstances.

Fred walked over to the window of his small brick home and reflected on his dark state of mind. The heavy rain annoyed him like a whinning cat. "If only I could somehow get more money". He didn't like to work because he could never fit in.

Then he saw something in the distance through the rained stained window. It was small and black. It looked little black book. He wondered why somone would leave something so small and personal out in the open. Fred gulped. He was curious but he really didn't want to go out in the rain.

As Fred stepped outside, the rain seemed to come down harder. Gray skies or not, he had to get that little black book. Fred headed out of the door, without evening wearing a hat or coat. For some reason, he felt hopeful.

As he walked out of the door, he ran into Mike Remington, a rude guy that used to bully him as child. "I'm busy Mike", Fred declared without even blinking. They both looked at each other with sad feelings, like two damp, dirty dogs ready to engage in a fight. Fred picked up his pace and went straight to the little black book that he was so curious about.

Fred felt embarrassed and looked downwards at the ground as he held the little black book close to his chest. "I don't have funds ..." he confessed. Mike glared. "Do you want me to shove that little black book where the sun doesn't shine?"

Fred promptly remembered that he was raised to be kind. "Actually, I do have the funds," he admitted. He reached into his pockets. "Here's what I owe you." As Fred reached into his pocket to pay Mike, he could see that that the little black book had a $20,000 bill in it. He also had the money that he owed Mike, but he showed no emotion. He didn't know what was going on. He hadn't made any wishes. At least he didn't say any wishes out loud that he could recall at the moment.

Mike looked shocked and happy, his brown wallet blushing like an infauated school girl

Then Mike came inside the house with Fred for a hot cup of coffee. Life on The August Planet was going to get better.
