Tesla Claimed He Captured Non-Human Intelligent Signals From Outer Space

The experience terrified the under-appreciated genius

Before there was SETI and the WOW signal, and numerous projects designed to contact non-human intelligence in the cosmos, there was a genius inventor named Nikola Tesla, in the early 20th century, who claimed to have done it.

Tesla’s lack of business savvy and an abundance of pure intellectual talent and vision doomed him to die penniless in a shabby hotel room. Soon after, it was stormed by U.S. Government agents, who confiscated all of his scientific papers, and to this day, many of these are still unaccounted for.

In those days, Edison and Marconi dominated the headlines as inventor wizards. Yet it took almost a hundred years for everyone to recognize that it was Tesla—who gave us AC electricity, wireless radio, and X-ray imaging. In reality, Tesla was the true heavyweight of technological breakthroughs.

Terrified By His Success

While working alone at night in his laboratory in Colorado on wireless communications experiments, Tesla started receiving signals that he concluded were not generated by natural causes, but instead were signals being sent by intelligent beings.

In a thorough article published ( see original article below) in the Feb. 9, 1901 edition of Collier’s Weekly, Tesla went into great detail about his jarring experience:

“My first observations positively terrified me, as there was present in them something mysterious, not to say supernatural, and I was alone in my laboratory at night; but at that time the idea of these disturbances being intelligently controlled signals did not yet present itself to me.

The changes I noted were taking place periodically, and with such a clear suggestion of number and order that they were not traceable to any cause then known to me.

Tesla

I was familiar, of course, with such electrical disturbances as are produced by the sun, Aurora Borealis and earth currents, and I was as sure as I could be of any fact that these variations were due to none of these causes.

Tesla

The nature of my experiments precluded the possibility of the changes being produced by atmospheric disturbances, as has been rashly asserted by some.

It was some time afterward when the thought flashed upon my mind that the disturbances I had observed might be due to an intelligent control.

Although I could not decipher their meaning, it was impossible for me to think of them as having been entirely accidental. The feeling is constantly growing on me that I had been the first to hear the greeting of one planet to another.

Tesla

A purpose was behind these electrical signals; and it was with this conviction that I announced to the Red Cross Society, when it asked me to indicate one of the great possible achievements of the next hundred years, that it would probably be the confirmation and interpretation of this planetary challenge to us."

History Repeats Itself?

Tesla's experience of picking up electrical signals from outer space and possibly another planet seems to be repeating itself.

Astronomers recently said they detected radio waves from a planet outside our solar system.

The planet, about 63 light-years away, is producing a radio signal originating from an enormous magnetic field.

Unlike Tesla, these modern-day scientists say the signal is not evidence of intelligent life.

“I know radio signals are associated with searches for extraterrestrial intelligence,” Edo Berger, a professor of astronomy at Harvard University, told CNN.

“But this is something very different.”

Berger

Researchers believe that this huge magnetic field, 200 times stronger than Jupiter’s, is naturally producing the signals.
