When it comes to pop culture the LEGO company has engaged with it with great aplomb. They have had their fingers in Marvel, DC, and Harry Potter franchises and have also had amazing success with the Star Wars universe. Over the years we have been treated to many video games along with classic LEGO Star Wars build sets that remain massively popular. Some of them are now becoming hard to find. In some cases, their price is as impressive as the quality of the model.

The big four would have to be the Millennium Falcon (coming in at 7,541 pieces), the Death Star (4,016 pieces), the Star Destroyer (4,784 pieces), and the AT-AT (6,785 pieces), all of which are at a $500+ price point. Ownership of these items has definitely been the cause of much envy among friends.

With every new Star Wars release, LEGO has brought out corresponding sets of either characters or scenes covering films as well as recent television shows like The Mandalorian, The Bad Batch, and The Book of Boba Fett. The latest news from StarWars.com is that LEGO is now going to be honoring the original trilogy once again with the release of three new dioramas: two from A New Hope and one from The Empire Strikes Back. They are due to be released on April 26, 2022, and are now available for pre-order.

The first set from A New Hope is called Death Star Trash Compactor Diorama (75339) This 802-piece set features the quote “One thing’s for sure, we’re all gonna be a lot thinner!” The Death Star Trash Compactor Diorama set includes Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Chewbacca along with R2-D2 and C-3PO minifigures. The walls of the trash compactor are fully movable and are able to close in on the content within. There is also the head of the dianoga thrown in for good measure.

Also from A New Hope is the second set called Death Star Trench Run Diorama (75329). This 665-piece set recounts Darth Vader's comment, “The Force is strong with the one.” Recreating the classic finale of A New Hope, we have Luke’s X-wing fighter flying through a cross-section of the Death Star trench pursued by two standard TIE fighters and Darth Vader’s TIE Advanced fighter.

The final set from The Empire Strikes Back is called Dagobah Jedi Training Diorama (75330). This 1000-piece set gives us the classic Master Yoda wisdom “Do. Or do not. There is no try.” The Dagobah Jedi Training Diorama recreates the scene where Luke Skywalker trains with Yoda near his hut on Dagobah. The minifigures of Yoda, Luke, and R2-D2 are included in the set. A mostly submerged X-wing fighter rounds out the scene.

As with all of the LEGO Star Wars sets, the attention to detail is meticulous. They maintain a very cute look while also being incredibly faithful to the original source of inspiration. It is great to see LEGO release these dioramas that pay homage to and honor the original trilogy. All three of them are also at a reasonable price point. If LEGO Star Wars is your thing, then be sure to snap these up as LEGO does have a practice of retiring sets that they have released.
