Even if you do not know much about Star Wars, you know that the lightsaber is a major part of it. The different colors and types of sabers have fascinated people since the beginning. Naturally, fans are excited to see all the different lightsabers in the Star Wars universe. Fans who love lightsabers will not be disappointed with the reveals of what lightsabers will be included in Insight Edition’s new book Star Wars: The Lightsaber Collection by Daniel Wallace.

Over the last month, marketing for Insight Edition’s new book has been posting and sharing exclusive spreads and images of some of the lightsabers that will be included in this collection. Of course, we will see several of the classic lightsabers that we have grown to love, including those belonging to Anakin Skywalker and Yoda. But we also get to see several newer and lesser known lightsabers.

Lucasfilm and Insight Edition decided that they wanted to include as many of the lightsabers mentioned in the movies, shows, video games, books, and comics of the Star Wars canon lore as they could. This included a special look at the Ren, wielded by Ren, the leader of the Knights of Ren.

On September 2, 2020, Jedi News was the first to share the book's entry about The Ren. It took many people by surprise since it has not had a large role to play as of yet in the lore. The Ren is the official name for the lightsaber and is described as being the basis of the Knights of Rens' beliefs. The title “Ren” is given to the leader of the same name’s lightsaber.

Ren is the mysterious former master of the Knights of Ren. We first got a look at Ren’s lightsaber, the Ren, and his character in the Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren comic book miniseries by Charles Soule last December. Ren is a shady dark side character who, according to the comic, played a large role in turning Ben Solo to the dark side. As we know from the movies, Ben Solo eventually becomes the leader of the Knights of Ren before the events of the sequel trilogy.

According to the sample page that was released, Ren does not owe allegiance to anyone, dark force or light. He preaches an ideology of self-centeredness, using his red-bladed lightsaber, the Ren, as a beacon and almost worshiped like a deity. The Knights of Ren roam the galaxy taking what they desire and doing what they want. The page states, “the Ren doesn’t stop to worry about the right or wrong of it, The Ren just is.”

We do not know much more about the lightsaber or the backstory of the Knights of Ren, but the inclusion of Ren’s lightsaber in this upcoming book could perhaps be a sign of more stories to come.

Keeping with the goal of including as many different lightsabers as possible, they have also released exclusive looks at Princess Leia’s lightsaber, which debuted in The Rise of Skywalker, as well as a look at Ben Solo’s original lightsaber before he broke the kyber crystal inside to create an unstable red crossguard blade that we know from the sequels as his unique lightsaber. We have also gotten a look at Rey’s yellow lightsaber that she built for herself and ignited at the end of The Rise of Skywalker.

According to the description of the 156-page book, it will include lightsabers from the video games, as well as the Star Wars: Thw Clone Wars series, the Star Wars: Rebels series, comics, novels, video games, and of course, the prequels, originals, and sequels. There is a good chance that we will see more lesser known or barely mentioned lightsabers, as well as better looks at some of the more popular and well-known ones, such as the Darksaber. The book’s goal is to give fans a closer look at the craftsmanship of the hilts and behind-the-scenes details on the designs and bios of the characters who wielded them.

Star Wars: The Lightsaber Collection by Daniel Wallace is slated to be released on October 20, and may be a must-buy for any Star Wars fan.
