'Star Wars' Drops The Trailer For 'The Mandalorian' Season 2

Season 2 Is Near!

Ever since the season finale of the hit Disney+ series The Mandalorian last December, when Moff Gideon emerged from his ship wielding the Darksaber, Star Wars fans have been very curious about what will happen in the second season. People are eager to see the further adventures of Din Djarrin and The Child, the latter having been nicknamed “Baby Yoda” by the fans. We knew that season 2 would be coming in October, and for a while, people were expecting that October 7 would be the release date. Recently, Star Wars social media announced, with the punny caption “This is the day,” that the new season would premiere on October 30. This is not as soon as many expected, but it is still not too far away. With October creeping closer and closer, fans have been wanting a trailer. They even expected it to drop during the NBA play-offs, though that did not end up happening. Now, however, we finally have a trailer. You can check it below:

As we can tell, Din Djarin is still very much devoted to protecting The Child as he tries to bring him back to his kind. The moment when The Child shields himself so that Din Djarin can do his thing is a shot that I imagine could fuel lots of memes. In fact, The Child himself is basically a walking meme. Pretty much everybody loves him. Given the phenomenon that he became, it is only natural that The Child would be featured heavily in this trailer and other aspects of the marketing for season 2.

Also included within this trailer is a glimpse at a sequence in which Din Djarin flies the Razor Crest and appears to be chased by X-wings. However, I would not rule out the possibility that this is a red herring. Perhaps Din Djarin and the people flying these X-wings are working toward a common goal that requires them to be allies to one another. We see stormtroopers again, and scout troopers on swoop bikes. And as Jon Favreau had previously hinted, we see Gamorreans. In this instance, two Gamorreans are fighting each other with their melee weapons in a ring that may bring boxing or wrestling to mind. I am so used to thinking of arenas when it comes to matches that involve weapons, but this is an interesting remix on the concept.

Some believed that we would be seeing Ahsoka Tano portrayed by Rosario Dawson in the trailer. While we do see a hooded character when Din Djarin mentions "sorcerers" (via dialogue that sounds like what we heard from him in the season 1 finale), this does not appear to be Ahsoka, but rather a new character. So we did not get a "Chewie we're home" moment from this trailer, as some speculated might happen. However, this does not completely rule out the possibility of seeing Ahsoka on the series.

For now, Star Wars fans have something to whet their appetites as they await the next season of The Mandalorian.
