Hype!

It is hard to keep track of all of the shows and movies that Disney and Lucasfilm have announced in the last year. With Disney+ spiking in the amount of new shows from Star Wars to Marvel to remakes of classics, there is a lot to look forward to especially in the Star Wars universe! One of these many announced Star Wars shows, set to debut on Disney+ later in 2021, is Star Wars: Visions.

We do not really know much about this intriguing new series except that it is going to be Star Wars from the point of view of some of the world’s best anime creators. A few days ago, however, Anime Expo tweeted that they would be debuting a sneak peak of Star Wars: Visions. We have no idea what that might entail, but if you are excited to see what this new series could bring to the Star Wars universe, tune in on Saturday July 3 at the Anime Expo Lite for this special preview. Hopefully it will be a little more than just a tease and at least give fans some more ideas of what it will be about.

Pop culture maven, Chastity Vicencio, will be hosting the panel for Star Wars Visions – Sneak Preview. Joining the sneak preview panel will be Lucasfilm’s Jacqui Lopez (Executive Producer), James Waugh (Executive Producer), Josh Rimes (Executive Producer). Also joining for this first look will be Qubic Pictures’ Justin Leach (Co-Executive Producer) and Kanako Shirasaki (Producer). They are all set to give an inside look at Star Wars: Visions.

Below are the panel details for the Star Wars: Visions – Sneak Preview

Star Wars: Visions – Sneak Preview

July 3, 2021 / 3:00 PM PST

Duration: 30 minutes

Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Visions is an upcoming anthology of animated shorts celebrating Star Wars through the lens of the world’s best anime creators and storytellers. Tune in for a sneak peek that will leave you excited for this all-new vision of the galaxy far, far away!”

Amazon also has a book listed for release on October 12, 2021 titled Star Wars Visions: RONIN, written by Emma Mieko Candon. The current tagline for the book says “A stunning original novel inspired by the upcoming Star Wars: Visions animated anthology series. Experience Star Wars like never before.”

From the description of the Anime Expo panel, Star Wars: Visions will not be a series like we have seen before. It most likely will not tie in with any of the current storylines, although, perhaps one or two of the shorts might pay homage to them. As of right now, we are not sure exactly how the aforementioned book plays into the series. Whether or not it will be like the novelizations of some of the feature films like Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker with more vivid details, it is sure to add some dynamic to the Star Wars: Visions series.

According to a Tweet in March 2021 by DelRey Books, the publisher of Star Wars Visions: RONIN, the novel is an original standalone story that will preface the Disney+ anime short series. It is meant to enhance and set up one of the specific stories.

We do not know quite yet what is the definition of “RONIN” in the title of the book. However, Ronins are not new in the Star Wars universe. According to Wookieepedia, “In Melitto culture, a ronin was a male warrior who had survived the defeat of his myrmitrix, thus becoming a hiveless outcast. The ronin Sarco Plank ended up working as a bounty hunter, jungle guide, and tomb raider on Devaron.” Perhaps this novel and the subsequent anime short will be about Sarco Plank, or perhaps it is about an entirely new character.

If we are lucky, we may learn more in the Star Wars: Visions – Sneak Preview on July 3 at Anime Expo Lite!
