Signal from the Dark Abyss

Echo of the Unknown Universe

THE BEGINNING OF THE MISSION

The year is 2358. Humanity has gone through numerous civilizational breakthroughs, mastering the Solar System and beginning the colonization of distant planets. However, the greatest challenge humans have faced is understanding the mysteries of the cosmos. At the center of this unknown ocean of space lies the Dark Abyss—a colossal black hole known as Sargas 9, located on the edge of the galaxy. It has always evoked both fascination and fear.

A research mission aimed at approaching this gigantic object was set to be a milestone in the advancement of science. Onboard the Elysium was a group of brilliant scientists and engineers from around the world, led by Captain Zara Vonn. Zara was known for her determination and bravery—traits that had propelled her to the top of the elite group of space explorers.

The Elysium was the product of international collaboration and the most advanced research vessel ever built. Its technology was so cutting-edge that many of the scientists barely understood it. Quantum propulsion, anti-gravity systems, protective fields—all of these were designed to allow the crew to safely approach Sargas 9 and study its event horizon.

“Are we ready?” Captain Vonn asked, standing on the command bridge, staring at the approaching abyss of the black hole, which stretched out like a dark jewel in the distant space.

“Yes, Captain,” responded Dr. Tarek Li, an expert in quantum physics. “All systems are functioning properly. We are nearing the stable orbit zone around Sargas 9.”

The crew of the Elysium was well-prepared for what lay ahead. Approaching a black hole was not only a technological challenge but also a psychological one. Many researchers were afraid of what might happen. Crossing the event horizon was one of the greatest risks—a place where time and space cease to exist.

However, as it soon became clear, the black hole was not to be their greatest threat.

THE SIGNAL

As Elysium neared the boundary of the event horizon, something unexpected appeared on the radar. At first, the research instruments detected only a few chaotic impulses. But with every kilometer closer to the black hole, the signal became more regular, as if someone—or something—was trying to make contact.

“That’s impossible…” whispered Tarek Li, staring at the data on his screen. “We’re receiving a signal from inside the black hole.”

Zara furrowed her brow. “A signal? How is that possible? Nothing inside a black hole should be able to emit any signal.”

“I’m not sure, Captain. It looks like... an artificial signal. It’s repeating in a structured way, as if someone is trying to send a message.”

Zara made a decision. “We need to investigate this further.”

The signal grew clearer. It was a kind of harmonic vibration that resembled sound—as if someone was singing a song whose notes reverberated off the walls of space. The crew of the Elysium was stunned. None of the previous reports on black holes had mentioned such phenomena.

“We’ll try to decode it,” Tarek said, beginning to work on the mathematical analysis of the signal. But the deeper he delved into it, the more everything pointed to one conclusion—this signal was not natural. Its structure, frequencies, and repetition patterns suggested an intelligence was behind it.

CROSSING THE HORIZON

Zara knew that continuing the exploration came with great risks, but this could be the discovery that would change the course of humanity.

“We proceed with the mission,” she decided. “We will cross the event horizon.”

The crew received the decision in silence, though not all were sure if it was the right choice. A black hole was a place where, theoretically, everything ceased to exist. But Elysium was equipped with technologies that would allow them to push beyond the boundaries of known physics.

As the ship neared the event horizon, the crew felt sudden vibrations. All systems began operating at their limits, and the space outside the bridge windows appeared to stretch and warp. Time seemed to flow differently—each second felt like an eternity.

And then, after crossing the horizon, everything calmed down.

The crew did not see darkness. On the contrary, the space around the ship was illuminated by a gentle, blue light that seemed to emanate from a massive structure floating in the void. What they discovered looked like a gigantic energy grid—a construct stretching thousands of kilometers, surrounding the core of the black hole.

“What is that?” Tarek asked in disbelief.

Zara stared at the extraordinary structure. It was impossible—yet it existed. This construct was the creation of an advanced civilization. Perhaps even a civilization that existed before the universe itself.

“We have to investigate this,” Zara said. “If this civilization could survive in such extreme conditions, it might hold the answers to humanity’s greatest questions.”

THE ULTIMATE DISCOVERY

The Elysium approached the mysterious structure. The scientists onboard began analyzing the surrounding technology, and Captain Vonn decided to deploy research probes.

What they discovered changed everything.

The probes transmitted images of the interior of the structure—a place that seemed to function beyond the laws of known physics. Time flowed differently there, and matter behaved in ways they couldn’t explain.

But the most important discovery was at the end of the structure. There lay a capsule—an enormous object containing data and information about a civilization that existed before the creation of the universe.

The crew of Elysium realized they had found a bridge to another dimension. And though the discovery had unimaginable consequences, humanity was not yet ready to fully understand what lay on the other side.
