Roses

Chapter One of Humans and the Supernatural

“I’m not fond of fake roses. You want to know why? It’s because they last too long and don’t get much attention, but people keep making them, as if one day they’ll get noticed and cherished by the person who possesses them. Why can’t people just appreciate real roses and stop using fake ones to show beauty to this world? They keep producing them, as if they define the true definition of love, passion, and lust.” The slender male figure turned away from the reader and looked up at the clear blue sky in disgust. “I know what you might think, ‘maybe the fake are for the best, so people can finally appreciate the real, and then people will stop creating the fake.’ But haven’t you ever wondered why people prefer the fake?” Turning back towards you, he looked into your eyes, his ruby red ones peeking at you through his jet black hair, he spoke with irritation in his voice. “How can people cherish the fake more than the real?! Is it because people are too lazy to take care of them? Are people so selfish and ungrateful that they would rather leave a fake unattended than make sure that the real one is safe? Make sure it’s well taken care of and healthy enough to survive?” Turning away again, the pale-skinned male took out a weapon. Not any weapon, but one, of which, the reaper himself would wield. Clenching it tightly in his right hand, he lifted it up to look at it.

“Maybe the real are too much to take care of…especially when they die so quickly… As much as I want to save you, I can’t. You’re on the list, and so is she… That person who called themselves your friend, but back-stabbed you at the very end to get what they want…” Turning toward you again, he lifted his weapon into the air, as if to strike it down upon you. “I’m sorry, but this is how you’ll go. You’ll finally be free from this torture that you once called life. I wish I could save a real rose like you, but this world is controlled by the strong…And too many people who are strong, are also fake and long-lasting…” As he swung down his weapon, your mind filled with memories of your life. ‘How did it get here?’ you thought, more memories flashing through your mind like a quick-running movie. Most of your memories were terrible, and you finally understood. ‘This person… no, this being is...'

Your final memories flashed through your mind, you couldn’t believe it… You finally went and done it...

You’ve had enough. Too many things had happened in just one day, and you couldn’t take it anymore. That was the last straw, this was going to be the day you finally left this horrible place. You grabbed whatever you needed to end your life, and that was it. As you took the final step to end your miserable life, a figure appeared before you. It looked like, one of a slender male figure. They looked at you with regret and sadness in their eyes. He moved to look at you and the two crosses around his neck made a gentle chiming noise that reminded you of the chimes outside someone’s porch or lawn.

Moving the collar of his shirt, he stood up straight and looked off into the distance. Starting to talk about real and fake roses. At first you were wondering why he was here and if he was going to try and make you live. But that wasn’t the case at all… In fact, he came for one thing only and that was… For you…

Keeping your eyes open to stare at the stunning being in front of you, you smiled, and let this man take away the only thing you had left. “By the way, my name is Campbell. It was great watching over a real rose like you…” He whispered, trying to comfort you till the very end. With your eyes closing and mind fading, you could only mouth the words that had been on your mind since he finished his speech. You wanted to say that you knew he was a reaper, but the words that you mouthed were completely unexpected.

I’m sorry…
