Here's The Story

With The Mandalorian season 2 getting closer and closer, the marketing is sure to become more concentrated than ever before. After a while of fans waiting for a teaser trailer, they finally got their teaser trailer, which was enough to get people excited. Now, some might be wary about further material being released through the marketing. When it comes to marketing for Star Wars, some fans may expect that certain things will be spoiled. What constitutes a “spoiler” may vary depending on one’s own point of view. We have heard rumors and reports of familiar faces possibly making their way into this next season of The Mandalorian. Now, it seems that we may gotten unintentional confirmation of certain cast members from an official source.

The Disney+ Germany account on Instagram (@disneyplusde) shared a video story listing a few actor names that we have heard amidst all the rumors and reports. Kessel Run Transmissions captured this video and tweeted it. The names include Rosario Dawson, Timothy Olyphant, and Sasha Banks. You can check out the tweet below.

While the story did not tell us which characters these actors would be playing, we have heard constantly that Rosario Dawson would be playing Ahsoka Tano, and that Timothy Olyphant would be playing Cobb Vanth, the Tatooine sheriff who found Boba Fett’s armor in the Star Wars: Aftermath novel trilogy. We also know that Sasha Banks is the hooded figure in the teaser trailer for The Mandalorian season 2 who is shown when Din Djarin mentions “enemy sorcerers.” However, we do not know what character she might be playing.

Since other social media accounts related to Disney+ have not shared a video like this revealing these cast members, it seems possible that this reveal may have been an error of premature confirmation done by the Disney+ Germany marketing team. It is not the first time that we have received confirmation of a cast member’s participation in the upcoming season of The Mandalorian. Recently, Temuera Morrison’s agency listed an appearance by the actor as Boba Fett in season 2 on his online resume, before removing that addition.

The closer that we get to season 2 and the more that we hear, the more it seems that we can indeed expect Ahsoka Tano, Cobb Vanth, and Boba Fett. One could argue that it is possible that Dawson and Olyphant may be playing different characters, but at this point, it feels more likely that Star Wars will stick with more familiar characters, given the track record of the franchise. If these characters are indeed in season 2, then it is a bit surprising that they did not appear in the teaser trailer. When the trailer for Star Wars Rebels season 2 came out five years ago, it included familiar returning characters. Some criticized the choice of having returning characters, arguing that they overshadowed the new characters on Rebels. There are some (myself included) who worry that familiar characters may overshadow the newer ones on this next season of The Mandalorian. In truth, we will not be able to judge fully until we see how everything is executed on the screen. Hopefully, the show will not push the newer characters to the side despite some returning characters.

The Mandalorian season 2 will premiere October 30 on Disney+. Pretty soon, viewers will be able to watch the further adventures of Din Djarin and the Child (known by many fans as “Baby Yoda”). Until then, fans can marathon the first season to refresh their memories on everything that has taken place thus far. This is the way. I have spoken.
