What Could This Film Center On?

Amidst the break from theatrical productions on the big screen, there has been much talk about the new Star Wars series debuting on Disney+. But most recently there has been some scuttlebutt about new theatrical productions on the big screen releasing in the next year or so. There are three Star Wars films slated for Christmas releases in 2023, 2025, and 2027. After the less than expected reaction to the most recent Star Wars productions on the big screen, Lucasfilm and Star Wars are looking to grunge up a true box office success.

Word on the street is that Damon Lindelof is scheduled to write a new Star Wars movie. He apparently has been at it for a couple months now. There is no information on whether he is the main writer or co-writer though. You may be familiar with Lindelof’s work as the writer of the HBO series Watchmen and the drama series Lost. There is no word as to the title or what production Lindleof will be writing. It does look, however, that his film is quite a way off from premiering on the big screen.

Lucasfilm and Star Wars are concerned with its not so successful box office stats lately. If you remember, in 2018, Solo: A Star Wars Story was an unexpected failure. One more disappointment is that Rogue Squadron’s release in 2023 is in doubt. Lindelof’s project could be bumped to a release date of sooner than 2027 if Rogue Squadron does not release as planned, Lindelof could be scheduled for a December 2025 or December 2027 slot.

In an interview with Fandom, Damon Lindelof mentioned his interest in writing for Star Wars or Marvel. Lindleof was quoted as saying;

“At some point, but certainly not in the immediate future, I feel like I would love to do something in the Star Wars universe. Maybe a decade from now when I would no longer be blamed for ruining it. That would be a hoot.”

Some insight on what Lindelof might be working on could include an Old Repbulic-era movie that could fill any voids in productions that were cancelled or delayed. He also could be working on a totally new project. He could be scheduled to come in and smooth out the rough edges on Rogue Squadron’s script, to get the film released on time. So, there might be hope for Rogue Squadron yet.

However, Lucasfilm has not released any information on the film and there is a chance that everything is going fine and will be released as scheduled. What does this mean? Well it pretty much means that all the news will be released later rather than sooner. But… There is the Star Wars Celebration in May and any convention related to Star Wars and the popular culture of comics and fictional stories is always set to be full of wonderful surprises for the fanbase. Hopefully, Star Wars Celebration 2022 does not disappoint. If there is a panel scheduled for Star Wars Celebration where all the new releases are updated it would be expected that Damon Lindelof would be a panelist to talk about his project and its potential release date.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Damon Lindelof and the Star Wars movie productions. The Star Wars fanbase is eager to see what Lucasfilm has in store for them. Although right now they are getting a good fill of what they wanted in Star Wars series on Disney+. With all the exciting events and premieres the news is bound to be released by the end of the year. We will have to wait and see.
