Questions We Still Have About 'The Bad Batch' Season 1

What Do You Want Answered?

The season 1 finale of The Bad Batch hit Disney+ a little over two weeks ago. With season 2 not scheduled for release until 2022, a few of us are probably doing another rewatch of the series, poring over little detail as all Star Wars fans like to do. Now that we have had time to digest the series a bit, a few questions may have come up. There are a few loose threads left hanging at the end of season 1 that we hope will be addressed in the upcoming season (and perhaps in future seasons after). Here are a few questions that are still nagging our minds.

Omega

We finally have confirmation that Omega is an unaltered clone of Jango Fett, not unlike Boba Fett. The only question that boggles our minds is whether Omega is Force-sensitive. Everyone has been debating this topic ever since the first episode. We saw her telling Crosshair that she forgave him as he could not control his future actions in a version of “I feel the good in you.” Later on, Tech attributed her heightened perception and insight to her being an enhanced clone. While she appeared to be very skilled at the strategy game dejarik, the Star Wars version of chess, we have yet to see her demonstrate any fast reflexes indicative of Force-sensitivity. Perhaps she will be put in future situations that force her to pull on her hidden abilities as the Bad Batch gives her a larger role in their missions. Is this the reason why Nala Se was intent on keeping Omega out of Kamino and the Empire’s hands?

Crosshair

First and foremost, when exactly did Crosshair have his inhibitor chip removed? Was it when he was injured by the fiery blast from the Venator ion engines blast on Bracca? There was some discussion that Crosshair’s inhibitor chip could still be intact and perhaps the Empire is deceiving him into believing that it has been removed.

Regardless of the status of Crosshair’s inhibitor chip, we know that he plans on rejoining the Empire, as he refuses to leave Kamino with his former crew in the season 1 finale. Despite his apparent loyalty, will the Empire take him back? After all, even with the skills and expertise he brings to the table, they were willing to let him perish along with Kamino.

What happens when Crosshair tries to return to the Imperial Army? Will Admiral Rampart welcome him back with open arms? (Not likely.) Is the Empire is intent on transitioning away from the clones? What will Crosshair do when he inevitably discovers that he is no longer needed or wanted by the rigid structure provided by the military?

Rex

We all cheered when our favorite clone captain Rex appeared in The Bad Batch. He brings important information about the inhibitor chip to the Bad Batch, and then returns to whatever he has been doing. The question is, what has he been doing? We know that he is working against the Empire, but with whom? The Rebel Alliance has not been organized yet. Which rebel cell is he working with? Ahsoka seems like the most likely candidate. (Ahsoka in season 2?) Perhaps he is assisting with Saw Gerrera’s efforts, which is struggling to get off the ground

Commander Cody

While we are on the topic of clone leaders, where is Commander Cody? He has been absent the entire first season of The Bad Batch. We last saw him trying to kill Obi-Wan Kenobi in Revenge of the Sith. According to Legends, he continues to serve the Empire post-Order 66. At this point, he is one of the last remaining clone troopers in the Imperial forces, and possibly the only clone connection for Crosshair to contact. Perhaps he will finally make a canonical appearance in the time after Revenge of the Sith.

Fate Of Other Clone Troopers After Order 66

In “Devil’s Deal” and “Rescue on Ryloth,” viewers were surprised to see clone troopers demonstrating independent thinking after Order 66. With the exception of the “defective” Bad Batch, the clone troopers seemed to turn into emotionless automatons, following the Emperor’s orders without question. Yet, on Ryloth, we see Howzer rallying his fellow clone brothers, refusing to be a part of the Imperial forces that order them to fire on the Ryloth people, whom they had sworn to protect. Is this a sign of the inhibitor chip wearing off?

Crosshair was very nonchalant in informing his former squadmates that his inhibitor chip had been removed. This has to have happened sometime after the Kaminoans intensified the Order 66 programming in Crosshair’s back in the first episode. Now that the Empire has established a firm control on the galaxy and is now bringing in its own non-clone recruits to replace the clone troopers, they might not feel inclined to maintain the inhibitor chips. After all, the Kaminoan facilities have been destroyed. Will we see more clone troopers questioning the Empire as they return to their faculty?

What Is Hunter’s “Genetic Advantage?"

This is my personal question that I want answered. I have not seen much discussion on Hunter’s “special ability.” According to Wookieepedia, his “special talent” allows him to perceive electromagnetic frequencies. This apparently makes him very effective at tracking targets without having to rely on maps, as seen in The Clone Wars episode “The Bad Batch.” While we see the abilities of other members of the Bad Batch demonstrated throughout the first season, we do not see the same of Hunter. Will he finally show us what he is really capable of in season 2?

The Bad Batch season 2 is scheduled for release sometime in 2022. Until then, we can continue discussing and speculating.
