'Obi-Wan Kenobi' Trailer Brings This Legends Planet Into Canon

Did You Spot It?

You Cannot Hide Forever. Reddit Will Find You.

A blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment resurrects a planet from the Star Wars role-playing game of the 1990s. At the 0.37 second mark, on the table glowing in red written in Aurebesh is the name Mapuzo. This planet is now officially canon.

Disney tried their best to make it a difficult treasure hunt. This was definitely harder than Moon Knight’s hidden QR codes. The particular surprise is on an angle so you have to squint to see it. You also have to be able to read an alien language that does not exist. These obstacles have never stopped Reddit before. The trailer had not been out an hour before someone spotted it.  Better luck next time, Disney.

A Wretched Hive Of Scum and Villainy

There is no denying, that this may be the biggest Easter egg to come out of the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer yet. Assuming Disney sticks to the current lore, Mapuzo is a Mid Rim planet located in the Hollan sector and is part of a system of planets of the same name. We do not have any details as to what this planet is like regarding climate or surface. There are no clues leftover from Legends telling us if Mapuzo has any native species of its own or details about any additional planets in the system. However, if it is like the rest of the sector, then it will be an ideal place for pirates and smugglers. It is no wonder the Imperial Fleet turns up there looking for a Jedi in hiding.

Mapuzo is on the doorstep of Ord Mantell and a hop, skip, and a jump from Mandalorian space. For those Legends fans in the know, Ord Mantell has a heavy Black Sun presence, (With all the hints at a Solo cameo, wouldn’t that be fun?). You get the idea of the type of neighborhood we are dealing with.

Your Planet Determines Your Reality.

We have gotten plenty of scope with this planet to take Kenobi’s story anywhere. However, Mapuzo has strong Rebel ties. The planet originally appeared in The Alliance Intelligence Reports and was the setting of a break-in investigated by a Rebel Alliance task force. The inclusion of this planet does suggest that we may see the beginning of the Rebellion in Obi-Wan Kenobi. It can also link the series with Ahsoka and Andor. Make sure to keep a lookout for any potential crossovers!

Congratulations, You Are Being Rescued.

The Alliance Intelligence Reports is an accompanying literature for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game published by West End Games. Players have the opportunity to roleplay as a member of the Task Force on Alliance Security and immerse themselves in the universe.

In the past, Star Wars has not yet given a nod to this group of devoted fans, and it is heart-warming to see them acknowledging people who kept the spark alive through times when Star Wars was not as mainstream as it is now. These fans have always spent money on merchandise, made high-quality cosplays, and traveled far and wide to attend conventions. It was not always easy to be a Star Wars fan ten to twenty years ago. Wearing the merchandise could get you derision and a dirty look. Now, you are the coolest, hippest person on the block. The role-playing community deserves to have their worlds and characters brought back into canon.

Always In Motion, The Future Is.

It has been an exciting day, Star Wars fans. We have a new planet and lots of new speculation about where the six episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi could take us. All we can do now is start sewing our Jedi robes and practicing with our lightsabers so that when May 27th arrives, we will be ready. May the Force be with you.
