Obi-Wan Kenobi Director Opens Up About This Version Of Darth Vader

The stage appears to be set for the long-awaited return of two of the most famous characters in the Star Wars saga. On May 25, 2022, Disney+ debuts the first season of Obi-Wan Kenobi. This is exciting news for the fanbase and especially for the Lucasfilm writers, producers, and directors. The new series is even more exciting, to have Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader. If knowing that Ewan and Hayden are returning gives the fanbase and Lucasfilm pleasure, one can only imagine how awesome this series will be.

There has already been a lot of talk about Obi-Wan Kenobi, but what about Anakin and Darth Vader? What version of the evil Sith Lord Vader will be portrayed? The series takes place ten years after Order 66 and about ten years before Vader's reign of power, displayed in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

Deborah Chow, who has directed episodes of The Mandalorian, has provided the fanbase some input on what to expect. The Obi-Wan Kenobi Director Deborah Chow commented:

"… he isn't the New Hope Vader quite yet, you know what I mean? So we are with the character sort of in the middle of this period. It is still Vader obviously, but it's a Vader that isn't quite a fully formed as A New Hope."

With that being said, what can the fanbase expect to see from Darth Vader in this new Star Wars series? With the long-anticipated release of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and it's coming the same week as Star Wars Celebration 2022 this May, it adds to the anticipation. Deborah Chow admitted it's difficult not having Vader in a series about Obi-Wan Kenobi. She was quoted as saying, "quite hard to avoid ."

Deborah Chow comments on how special it was for her to direct this series and have Vader in the series.

"Obviously, Hayden was going to be part of this series, and when he first came on to set for us, it definitely had a very special feeling. And it was a really interesting moment for me because you really started to see the different generations and how they connect to Star Wars and the franchise, where you have a generation that grew up with the prequels first and with Hayden. It's a totally different thing for them than a generation that grew up with the originals. And then there's younger generations with the new ones. So it felt really special bringing him back. And obviously I'm Canadian and he's Canadian, so that was also very heartwarming for me. We were having some Canadian pride on that day."

To see a rematch between Vader and Kenobi in the series will be interesting. That is very gratifying because the series is only six episodes long. This is the shortest season for a Disney+ series yet. So there is a lot to look forward to, from a positive and hopeful perspective anticipating only six episodes. It was reported that the series starts out with Obi-Wan Kenobi keeping a watchful eye over Luke Skywalker until the Inquisitors interrupt his surveillance. This meeting is also expected since the Inquisitors are tasked with hunting the remaining Force users.

Only a couple more months before the big debut on May 25!. To see Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader on-screen simultaneously will be refreshing and exhilarating. The fanbase should not be disappointed (c'mon peeps, it's Star Wars, someone will be disappointed). The trailer, for instance, was mind-blowing. It did not provide any signs of Vader anywhere but is understandable since that is the big reveal of the series. Patience, young Jedi, the time will come soon enough.
