NO. Pedro Pascal Has Not Left ‘The Mandalorian.'

Rumors float around throughout Hollywood on a regular basis. Most of them are unfounded, a few are true, etc. This is why fact-checking rumors is a good thing.

Recently, a rumor started circulating, stating that Pedro Pascal, the star of Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian, had left the production. Grace Randolph, who has reported on Star Wars rumors before, said that the rumor stated that Pascal had left the production after having numerous disagreements, mostly with the creative team, and that Pascal then went to the studio behind the backs of the creative team to plead his case, which allegedly resulted in him being told to leave the production.

According to Grace Randolph, Pascal wanted to have some scenes in season 2 of The Mandalorian with his helmet off. Fans of the show will remember that it was stated repeatedly in season 1 that Mando does not take off his helmet due to his beliefs and culture. So, from a certain point of view, it makes sense that the creative team would not want to budge on this. Randolph also said that she heard from multiple sources that Pascal complained about the suit being hot, and hard to work in. Whether or not this is true remains to be seen.

Allegedly, he went to Lucasfilm to complain and try to get them to intervene in the situation with the creative team. When Lucasfilm tried to get involved, all hell broke loose. Lucasfilm and The Mandalorian creative team were already allegedly butting heads over how to organize season 2, and whether or not to have more standalone or connected episodes. So when Pascal talked to Lucasfilm, The Mandalorian creative team told him good bye and Pascal left the filming. This supposedly took place about halfway through filming.

There are, however, a lot of holes in this rumor.

On one hand, it seems pretty farfetched. When Pascal signed on to play The Mandalorian, he would have known what the costume requirements were. When someone is required to wear a full body suit or suit of armor or something that is going to be heavy and obscure their face for a long period of time, they have to be in great physical condition. Pascal would have known this, because they would have had to make sure that he was going to be all right being in this suit for long hours every day. So, it does not make sense that he would throw a fit about being in the suit for that long. Although, the occasional complaint about it would, on especially hot days, be valid.

Also, Pascal did not seem to have any issue with not wanting to keep his helmet on during season 1’s filming, so it does not quite add up that he would for season 2. As stated above, he also would remember the scripts from season 1 and how, in every episode, they make a big deal about him not taking off his helmet. So, he would know that that was the case.

The other bit of evidence suggesting that this rumor may not be true is that Pascal posted photos on his Instagram account (@pascalispunk) recently to celebrate Ludwig Göransson, who composed the score for The Mandalorian. He was nominated for and won an Emmy for the score. The photos that Pascal posted show that he does not seem to mind the helmet, and definitely supports the creative team.

In the series of pictures, Pascal is shown wearing the helmet and directing the orchestra for fun. Also, in the last picture, he is taking off the helmet, and there is a definite smile under there. These do not seem like images that would be posted by someone who left a show in a fight. They look like a group of people who had fun on set, specifically in the soundtrack development side of things. Someone who posts pictures after the fact of supporting the creative team does not usually left the production on a bad note.

If the rumor does, however, prove true, then it is being kept under some pretty quiet wraps. And it is not known how such a situation would affect the rest of the production and future seasons.

The Mandalorian season 2 is set to release on Disney+ October 30. It is highly anticipated by fans, and looks like it will feature even more adventures for Mando and “Baby Yoda”.
