The moon will find itself at the start of it’s new rotation in fixed, watery Scorpio on the 25th of this month. This moon is fixed, which means this is the new moon that lands in the middle of the fall season. In addition to lending it’s energy to the Scorpio lunar cycle, any intentions and energies that are prominent during this lunar transit will probably turn out to be reoccurring throughout the season of change.

In general, anytime the moon is in conjunction to the sun, we have a new moon. The entirety of the moon seems to be hidden from view (although if your eyesight is good, you’ll be able to see the moon’s outline) in the night sky during this lunar transit. Speaking to energy, the new moon in every lunar cycle marks a period of anticipation, initiation, manifestation, and often, heightened intuition and emotions. This new moon will be in the sign of the scorpion, Scorpio (not a lot of creativity with the naming of that one).

Scorpio is the eighth constellation in the zodiac, meaning it is associated with both Pluto and 8th house (8H) energy. These characteristics make this a great time to focus on the themes associated with the sign, planet, and house. General Scorpio/Plutonian/8H themes are: transformation, sex, regeneration, death, life cycles, possessions, and taboos.

The moon in Scorpio

Scorpio is a fixed sign (occurs in the middle of the fall) in the water element. Scorpio energy is passionate, intuitive, reliable, and mysterious. The new moon occurring in this sign will bring in an energy that encourages us to really make the changes that will bring about the transformation we’ve been secretly hoping for and/or working on. Since Scorpio is a fixed sign, you will also spend this lunar cycle doing the work as opposed to just thinking about it and planning it. As this is a manifestation period, expect to see a return on the things you find yourself working on over the next few weeks, leading up to the middle of the spring season — around the Scorpio full moon.

This moon is also coincides with a solar eclipse. A good way to look at the eclipses is by comparing them to the major lunar transits (new and full). Eclipses are like new and full moons on steroids. Solar eclipse energy can be described as something that shines light on the things that will be coming in for you. So while this is a new moon, our path(s) will be intuitively illuminated during this time. Eclipse energies typically last up to around six months. The prominent themes of the eclipse are typically evident throughout that eclipse axis’ cycle. So, whatever this eclipse illuminates will most likely begin to unfold over the next six months, but you’ll be seeing these themes play out until about six months after the Taurus-Scorpio axis cycles out. The last eclipse on this axis will occur in October of next year, and even though we will have already started to tap into the Aries-Libra axis, the Taurus-Scorpio energy will be lingering until around springtime of 2024.

There are a few aspects that come along with this lunar transit. The moon makes a conjunction to Venus (in Scorpio). Venus governs love, personal tastes, and money. The moon’s conjunction to this planet will bring in an air of peace. There will also be the opportunity to experience emotional and personal connections with others and things you are passionate about. This is also a good aspect for a poppin’ sex and love life!

The moon in Scorpio also makes an opposition to Uranus (in retrograde, in Taurus). Uranus energy encompasses excitement, innovation, individuality, and change. The moon’s opposition to this retrograde planet can bring up some relationship problems, heavy emotions, and impulsive reactions. On the bright side this planetary aspect will also bring in the courage to take the leap of faith regarding the things you really want to do.

The final aspect the moon makes during this transit is a quintile to Pluto (in Capricorn). Although some scientists and astrologers have booted Pluto and it’s influence from the game, our ice baby still gets some play over here. Pluto governs transformation, regeneration, death, and the depths of the soul. A quintile between the moon and Pluto intensifies appreciation of beauty and the finer things in life. This aspect also brings in a need for creative expression. This will also be a time where you might find yourself more interested in attending artsy events, like open mic nights, film screenings, and gallery openings.

Scorpio new moon rituals

Intentions are a great way to manifest the things you want to see in your life. It is important to remember that the new moon marks the beginning of a lunar cycle therefore, intentions should be focused on bringing in something new. Write intentions with phrases like “I can,” “I do,” and “I am” related to the Scorpio energy of this lunar transit. You can write your intentions in a new moon notebook, so that you can reference them later on in the year. Another way to tap into this new moons’ vibes is by working with the water element. This can be as easy as taking a spiritual bath, making and working with some moon water, or going to sit by a natural body of water.

New moons and full moons are a great time to get in touch and in tune with our spiritual energy, sometimes called our “higher selves. ” Working with colors, scents, and healing crystals associated with the Scorpio zodiac energy is one of the best ways to make the most of the spiritual tools you have available. Scorpio colors include deep hues of reds and purples, like maroon and burgundy. Fresh scents, like sea salt or rain water, would be good to work with if you like to incorporate smells. Cleaning your home using spritual waters is good do during a water lunar transit as well. You can also incorporate healing crystals into your new moon ritual. A few Scorpio stones that you can work with during the next couple of weeks are Smoky Quartz, Mookaite Japser, and Shungite. You can either place these stones around you, wear or carry them, or meditate with them to get the full effects of their healing properties.

Don’t forget about Aries…and get ready for Taurus!

We are starting a new lunar cycle however, we did have a full moon a couple of weeks ago (Oct 9). While the Aries themes will be a lot less intense moving away from that lunar transit, some residual energy will linger for a few weeks, or until we have the full moon in Taurus. You can also use the first couple of weeks in November to pair your Scorpio new moon rituals with some Aries full moon tools. A good way to mix in this sign’s energy is to add a couple of Aries crystals to your Scorpio crystal collection. A few Aries stones you could use are Bloodstone, Fire Agate, and Red Jasper. You can also incorporate the fire element by going outside and soaking up some vitamin D from the sun.

The Scorpio new moon energy will stay with us for about a month, or until we have the Sagittarius new moon (Nov 23). The strength of the effects will be more prominent during the new moon shadow periods, which are typically about three to four days before and after the new moon. It’s best to do your new moon rituals on or during the transit however, if you’re unable to at that time, the shadow period is always a good second option. Spirituality is a sacred journey, so — it’s all about intention, do what works best for you. Don’t worry about anybody telling you that you can’t do your rituals because the moon left a certain sign.

This lunar transit will primarily affect individuals with natal Scorio moon placements, specifically in two degrees or within the orb (six to seven degrees). People with a lot of Scorpio placements, fixed energy, 8H placements, and water in their chart(s) can expect for this to be a transformative time, even if it’s not clearly evident on a conscious level. Additionally, anywhere you find these placements in your chart can give you a hint as to what this new moon might bring in for you based on the surrounding planets, houses, and aspects.
