As He Should Be

It has been two years since The Mandalorian premiered on Disney+ and for many people, it was the beginning of a new chapter in the Star Wars franchise. It launched a new slate of Star Wars content that is projected to continue throughout the 2020s. It sparked the imagination of fans and became a worldwide hit the moment it debuted. It was the beginning of a new era. Disney has felt to acknowledge it in one of their promos. They acknowledged something that much of the fanbase already believed, that Mando’s adventures marked a new age for the franchise, and that it sparked a new slate of Star Wars content for a new generation of fans.

This promo focuses on The Mandalorian and how it led to the spin off The Book of Boba Fett, which actually continued the story of Mando in some places. This is not even mentioning the Ahsoka spinoff in the works, or the other Star Wars content that is coming to the platform, which likely was greenlit by the success of Mando. Of course, it also focuses on Grogu, also known as The Child, also known as “Baby Yoda”, whose bond with Mando formed much of the show’s emotional core. With the promo, it seems as though Star Wars really has entered a new age, with the arrival of Disney+ and the media dominance of the Walt Disney Company pushing it to new heights; say what you will about the sequel trilogy, it just didn’t have the same reach as Disney+ did, though it did set the stage for the renaissance that the latter gave us.

The promo (which can be seen below) seems to confirm what many fans suspected after the finale of Book of Boba Fett, that the multiple series on Disney+ are a part of an larger story arc, with Din Djarin and Grogu at the center. It remains to be seen to what extent the Mandalorian will play a role in the upcoming series such as Ahsoka.

The Mandalorian premiered on November 12, 2019, with a third season slated for this year. The Book of Boba Fett premiered on December 29, 2021 and ran for seven episodes until February 9, 2022. The Ahsoka spin-off will see filming through this year, but that’s not the only Star Wars content we are getting. Obi-Wan Kenobi is scheduled to premiere on May 25, 2022, and will likely consist of six episodes; this is a highly anticipated miniseries focusing on the iconic master himself and will also feature the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, or rather as Darth Vader. Andor is scheduled to be released in mid-to-late 2022 and will consist of 12 episodes with a second season already in development. The adventures of this Rogue One character will be sure to please fans and that’s only scratching the surface of the slate of content. There are still more projects on the way like Droid Tales and The Acolyte. There’s bound to be more in the works, to be announced soon enough. The 2020s are looking to be a great decade for the galaxy far, far away.
