My A.I. Experiment

Have you ever asked a question and then had to look at the answer.

AI is here to stay. But, after years of it being around, I finally asked AI a question to see what it could teach me. This is the story of how I am able to show the one flaw of AI, and why humans are a long way from being replaced.

I have finally asked ChatGPT a question. Sure, it can answer just about anything, and if you take the time to work with it, you can learn if the data is accurate or flawed. So, to that idea, I decided to ask it a real question and see how much AI can help one to learn, to understand facts, and to put things together in ways that are useable.

That is the problem with AI. If you're not using it in ways to help humans, then you're corrupting it, much the way the internet became a corrupted tool in human history. For those of you in that age bracket of the 40s, even potentially the 30s, you may remember a different time. A time before the internet being so prevalent.

Who would have ever thought that a communication tool would replace things? It's replaced human connections. It's replaced the sounds of a real human voice. It's replaced the need to talk to people to learn. And, it's rapidly replacing having to have the balls to do such simple tasks as...walking up to a person and introducing yourself.

The internet is used the world over, but it likely wasn't meant to be used so prevalently for:

  • Exploitation
  • Predatory practices
  • Pornography
  • Criminal conspiracies
  • Propogandizing hate and division
  • Forcing fringe ideologies

There are probably about a dozen other things that could be added to the list. However, the points made. A tool such as the internet, a tool meant to bring the world together, finds itself being used for things that are unhealthy, unwise, or illegal, even immoral reasons, and it's been changed by human hands. It's humans that will do the same with AI.

So, in one of those experimentation moments, I took a subject to the world of AI, and decided to explore the truths of things around that subject. That subject is finance. And, as many of you know, there are certain aspects to finance that will keep coming up as time goes on. For example, the U.S. National Debt.

Like any other statistic, the nations debt is frequently brought up. During the Biden years, or most recent years under a Democrat president, the Republicans brought up the growth of the debt because of such things as the rise in the debt due to:

  • Obamacare/The ACA Subsidies
  • The UKRAINE WAR
  • USAID
  • NGOs

Now, we have a Republican president in office, and Democrats are against spending, but mostly because they aren't able to control the spending. Watching Chuck Schumer's speeches from the floor, he's clearly demanding control, through attacks on ICE and DHS, complaining about spending money on the IRAN conflict, and then wanting to undue spending cuts. It's amazing that you complain about spending and then want to undue spending cuts.

It's clear that neither side has a clue what the people in the country want. But, they tend to sway what people in the country believe. So, to look at that, let's take an honest look at who has blown up the US NATIONAL DEBT the worst durign their presidency. And remember, that some presidents policies lasted long after they were gone, causing the debt to grow under other presidents.

SO I ASKED

Please show me a CPI data graph showing the amount that the national debt grew under presidents in the years 2001 to today. And, the answer, is about what I expected.

Information gathered and prepared by ChatGPT

It would take hours, years ago, to put together something with accuracy that is trackable through government reports, utilizing the CPI data, and supported by literature from the Wall Street Journal. But, in about five minutes, a humanbeing can go from wondering, to seeing for themselves, the answer to a question.

So, to understand the reasoning behind such explosions, you have to look at the events during each timeline, and the different policies.

Under Donald Trump's first term, there was the monumental expenditures of the COVID-19 emergency. Between two and three trillion dollars were spent during what would ultimately be his final year, on Covid-19 alone.

Under Biden, spending on COVID remained close to the same. However, there was an additional emergency under the Biden Administration. Ukraine was invaded by Russia. Which saw the United States allocate over 180 billion to the Ukraine government to support the efforts against Russia.

What did President Obama's term have that ballooned the federal debt. To start with, there were the lingering effects of the Afghan and Iraq conflicts. During the entirety of Obama's presidency we had a heavy presences in both areas of the world.

Then, the nearly 100 billion a year the government spent on the ACA original subsidies. Those were the subsidies that the ACA went back to, when the expanded subsidies from the COVID era phased out. That should give a pretty good estimate that the 100 billion a year had ballooned to even more by the time Obama's VP, Joe Biden, left his term as president.

Those expenditures carried on through Trump one, Biden one, and into Trump two, where they continue today, but not at the inflated Covid era prices.

How did BUSH do?

The beginning of the AFGHAN conflict, additional allocations for security in the United States, military spending, and federal funds to help rebuild NY City, made Bush's first term an economic disaster. Little did he know, there was an impending financial collapse coming. That left him with bigger problems, and it went into the Obama years, as the early part of Obama's presidency was spent tackling the economics of the recession.

Readers might have thought I'd have stopped after I got my answers to the original question. But, AI, didn't replace the human elements.

The numbers from the graphs aren't perfect, and they lack the context of being educated on the times which each person was president. Each person did have a mission, however divergent they might have been, and each did get hit with astounding levels of difficulty.

The worst difficulties out of the presidents in the 21st century were arguably with President Bush and President Trump. President Bush was barely in office, his presidency still in its infancy, when 9/11 hit him square in the face. President Trump had to preside over the early days of the first global, pandemic response, while dealing with resistance from his own government because he was president.

One got slapped right from the beginning. The other might go to his grave thinking karma or greater powers moved heaven and earth to break him at the end.

What they all have in common, to varying degrees, are the numbers. But, even with all that AI can do, numbers don't tell a complete story. Neither does AI.

Humans are safe for a while, I.M.H.O.
