Mark Hamill's Response To Resurfaced German 'Star Wars' Parody Video

It was December 21st, 2021, the year was almost over and The Book of Boba Fett was ready to premiere its first episode; but it seems the galaxy far, far away still had one secret left for 2021. To be more accurate, a secret from about 40 or so years ago. A long time ago, in a country far, far away, there was a music program called Disco. It was aired on the German ZDF network from 1971 to 1982, during the East-West split of the cold war; ZDF was West German, to clarify. If there’s anything to compare it to, I’d say it was an equivalent of something you’d find on MTV during its golden age, or VH1, from what we can tell.

Of course, when Star Wars became a massive hit, It wasn’t long before parodies were made. Today, parodies of the beloved franchise are everywhere, from songs by Weird Al, to the film Spaceballs. In the early days of galactic parody, Disco was able to one-up the competition by having one of the stars of Star Wars actually appear on their show. They actually got Mark Hamill, Luke Skywalker himself, to stretch and emote on a crescent moon and interact with Miss Berlin on a T-47 speeder while the host, Ilja Ritcher, sang a song to the tune of John William’s main theme.

A clip from the parody can be seen below, and it is a wild ride indeed. From Mark Hamill's flowy golden robe, something rather unbecoming of a Jedi, to the space-age costume of Miss Berlin, to Darth Vader inexplicably playing the wedding march on a trumpet in the clip's final moments. The best part of this has got to be Mark Hamill’s response, as it’s clear he wanted no part in this at all. Replying to Twitter account "All the Right Movies", which brought this parody to the attention of others, Hamill stated;

In this case, it appears that hindsight really is 20/20. It appears that Mark Hamill was only appearing in this via the logic of famous actors appearing in quirky Japanese commercials. Traveling to someplace new and seeing the sights, doing a small amount of pretty off-the-wall work, and taking a decent payday. Of course, since the parody is now on Twitter, it is safe to say that his plan backfired. After all, the internet never forgets.

Of course, we still don’t know what he did to get on Disco, but we can assume at least one person asked him, “sprechen sie deutsch?” In any case, the show has him speaking German, but whether or not he actually could is hard to tell from the video. Of course, considering that Hamill has explicitly stated that he didn’t want to do this, we can assume he’s just speaking it phonetically. We can only imagine the other details of this production, but to spare Mark some trouble, we’ll just drop the subject here.
