“Nothing compares with the finding of true love; because once you do, your heart is complete.” Unknown.

A whole lot is happening outside Vida’s confinement.

There was a park full of children over 1 mile away from the house Vida was being kept.

The sun beaming down from the sky, shining through the branches of the trees in the park and casting shadows on the walking paths. It is warm, and there is a nice breeze. Children in the park are enjoying the first official day of summer. The sun providing a thick warm blanket to the children. The mothers that forgotten to apply sun cream to their child would regret later in the evening. Parents and nannies were sitting on the bench, chatting while watching their children.

Elderly people were dying of natural causes or by design. People were retiring after 40 plus years of working. Some couples were living together. Others were getting married first. Women were trying to get pregnant others would get pregnant without even trying. Adolescents were graduating and aspiring for more, while others were prone to fail. The rich were getting richer, and the poor, well, the poor was getting poorer. The evolution of technology was making humans become addicts. So much was going on.

The world is evolving without Vida, but someone is looking for her in the mix of it all. Well, he did not know it was her he was looking for. He is looking for his mate, and his mate is Vida.

Nathaniel is the alfa of his pack. Traditionally a lycan would only take over their parents after finding their mate. However, when Nathaniel’s father passed away eight years ago after the grey war, his mother Caroline couldn’t cope with being the alfa luna. The pain of losing her mate made her hollow and more feral.

Nathaniel as the only son had no choice but to take over at the age of fifteen. Nathaniel is now twenty-three years old. He should have found his mate when he turned sixteen.

He has looked for his mate in every pack around the world, but she was nowhere to be found. He is getting desperate. His wolf is getting more agitated each day that passed without his mate. He is convinced that his mate hasn't been born yet, or maybe she died in the grey war.

He can’t concentrate. He can’t focus on anything. His mind goes straight to his not found mate. Where is She?

He sits on his chair, looking at his desk, filled with papers to sort, pack duties on hold, he can’t focus. Exhaling, he gets up to pour himself liquor to burn the need to taste blood. In the last few months, his wolf has become more feral, before a change of skin and a 30 miles run would calm him down, now the bloodthirst is so intense that he needs to kill to calm his wolf.

So far, he only killed animals such as deer’s, or rabbits, but Nathaniel knows that he won’t be able to control his thirst for much longer. One day he would have to give in control to his wolf, he is afraid that it will be very soon.

A nock on the door gets his attention. Pouring the amber liquid down his throat and enjoying the way it burns, he tells his beta to come in.

“What did you find?” he asks, sitting back in his chair.

“I have good news,” says his beta. Monique was the first female to get a beta position in America. Her mate Noah was proud to have his female holding such title. He didn’t mind being in the shadows. She could have all the light she wanted.

“Just spit it…” Nathaniel was tired, his wolf urging him to shift.

“I found a witch… she is very confident that she can help us find Luna” …Monique was worried for her alfa. They have been best friends since preschool. She knows how much the other half is important for the survival of both skin, wolf and human. Hell, she knows she wouldn’t be able to breathe without Noah in the picture. After a lycan becomes of age, he has one year to find his other half. It’s been what? Seven years without his female. He is holding on. He has hope. Otherwise, he would’ve given in by now.

“And why am I not looking at her?” Nathaniel asks, evidently losing his calm.

“She will be arriving in an hour.” Monique grins, she is hopeful.

“Bring her to me as soon as she steps out of the car” contrary to Monique, Nathaniel expects this to be yet another waste of his time. She is dead, he thinks, she must be. But he doesn’t say it, not out loud.

Monique sees the conflict in Nathaniel’s eyes, both skins fighting for power. The wolf trying to take over and run to the wild, the human wanting to hold on to his humanity for as long as possible. She questions herself how long till he gives in.

Monique turns around to leave, her hand touching the gold door handle.

“Mo".... He paused..."Thank you!” Nathaniel’s voice mixed with his feral side resonates.

Monique doesn’t need to turn to face Nathaniel. Smiling, she opens the door and leaves.

Curled up in her old dirty blanket, completely unaware of what her absence is already doing to her mate. Vida is mind travelling, dreaming of her mother.
