Minor Arcana & Playing Cards - 52+4

The Light Seer's Tarot is comprised of 78 cards — 22 Major Arcana (22 trump cards ~ 0 — The Fool to 21 — The World) and 56 Minor Arcana (suit cards Ace to King). The widely-used regular playing-card deck is pretty much the Minor Arcana — 52 cards in a deck, along with two jokers for a total of 54 cards. If you get instruction cards as well, potentially an equal match in the number of regular playing cards to cards found in the Tarot's Minor Arcana — 56. My special Golden King playing-card deck has 56 cards, including two Jokers and two Golden King or wild cards.

The Tarot Deck's 56 Minor Arcana contains four suits, just like a regular deck: Clubs, Hearts, Spades, and Diamonds; but they have different names — Pentacles, Wands, Swords, and Cups. Clubs are the same as Wands (luck/magic), Hearts are the same as Cups (love, relationships), Spades are the same as Swords (both begin with s), Diamonds are the same as Pentacles (material wealth; a trick to remember: Think of the uncapitalized letters: "d" and "p" as looking similar).

Simply said: Playing cards are identical to the Minor Arcana of a Tarot Card deck, in that they both have four categories, and they both include cards 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack (Knight), Queen, King, Ace. The one main difference is a card equal to 10 or the Jack/Knight is included in the Tarot, called a Page. Since the Page is excluded in each suit (4) — this is where you get the 56 versus 52-card deck ~ the missing Page (copycat of 10, Jack, or Knight).

To make up for the four missing cards, the Jokers and the wild/instruction cards can be used. The Black Joker is sometimes considered to be The Fool (number 0 card – Major Arcana), and the Red Joker is considered to be The Magician (number 1 card — Major Arcana), which makes sense and is what I would consider my Jokers in my Golden King playing-card deck to be. Like I previously mentioned, I also have two extra wild Golden King cards, which I picture as The Emperor (4) and The Empress (3) from the Major Arcana, and exclude the Page entirely.

I have just recently acquired my Light Seer's Deck, and I have had a very positive experience with the deck so far. The illustrations are a modernized, colourful, and relatable spin-off from the most popular/highly-revered Tarot Deck used today — the classic Rider-Waite's. I feel I relate better with the Light Seer's Tarot, and really enjoy the written explanations of the cards.

To wrap up, I want to include a three-card Light Seer's draw for the day. The question I had on my mind while shuffling was surrounding the Decked-Out articles and the direction I should take. The cards I drew are The Magician, Queen of Pentacles, and 7 of Swords. Magician: skill, natural talents, power of manifestation, creativity, resourcefulness. Queen of Pentacles: healer, working parent, self-made person, material wealth and abundance, strength in family and community, a kind and nurturing heart, groundedness, being down-to-earth, generosity. 7 of Swords: deception, betrayal, taking only what's needed, Universe bearing witness to true intentions, getting away with something, being strategic, being grateful for resources you have, moving silently and quickly.

That is just a brief description of what the Guidebook includes as the cards' meaning. I take it as confirmation to proceed forward with confidence, and hope this can open the doors to more projects and potentially collaboration with others in the community.

If you are interested in the Light Seer's Tarot deck and taking a deeper dive, or would like to have a personalized reading — please stay tuned and do not hesitate to reach out. More about myself and the cards to come. Until next time, all the best.
