Lego Halloween Special Set Post-Rise Of Skywalker

Spooky!

The history of Star Wars and Lego dates back to 1999, when the first models were released for The Phantom Menace. The first animated short called Lego Star Wars: The Han Solo Affair premiered in 2002. Since then, countless vehicles, dioramas, mini-figures, books, video games, and animated films and series have been released, and they combine the fun of building incredible things out of little bricks with the vastness of Star Wars.

On October 1, 2021, just in time for Halloween, the latest installment of this long-lasting collaboration between Lucasfilm and Lego will premier in the form of Disney+'s LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales. Like last year’s animated short – The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special – the story will take place (or at least start) after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, with Poe Dameron and BB-8 having to make an emergency landing on Mustafar. There on the lava planet, they meet Graballa the Hutt, who has miraculously purchased Fortress Vader, in order to turn it into the first all-inclusive Sith inspired luxury hotel. The greedy Hutt, of course, is not a new character to the Lego Star Wars universe, as he already appeared in several episodes of The Freemaker Adventures, a Lego animated series that ran for two seasons from 2016 to 2017.

Also on Mustafar, Poe and BB-8 meet a young boy named Dean, who works as a mechanic for Graballa. While the Resistance hero and his droid await the repair of their X-Wing, they start to wander around in Vader’s former home together with Vaneé, the loyal servant of the Dark Lord, who obliviously still feels obliged to fulfill his duties, even with his master long gone. While the group moves deeper and deeper into the fortress, Vaneé starts telling creepy stories about ancient Sith artifacts and iconic villains from all eras of Star Wars.

Those who may find this concept familiar are probably thinking about the Tales from Vader’s Castle comic series from IDW that has been released either as one-shots or as miniseries in every October since 2018 and will continue to do so this this fall with a 5-parter called Ghosts of Vader’s Castle. Vaneé himself made his first appearance in the flesh in Rogue One (2016), where he greets Orson Krennic, when he arrives on Mustafar to meet with Vader, and later kneels before the Dark Lord, who is floating in his bacta tank. Once an Imperial Inspector who was sent to Mustafar to investigate the sudden going crazy of several members of the local stormtrooper garrison. Upon staying on the lava planet and inhaling unfiltered fumes, Vaneé first starts to see hallucinations and later goes insane himself, but not before agreeing to stay on Mustafar and becoming Vader’s servant.

During the course of the various issues of the Vader’s Castle series, Vaneé, who has not only gone mad but also become a sadist, encounters various rebels who happen to land on Mustafar. When not trying to kill them, he tells them creepy and haunting stories that touch on their special fears, and it seems that this will also be the premise for Terrifying Tales.

Like its predecessor from last year, it seems like the story won’t be limited to the sequel era timeline, but will also incorporate events and characters from all three trilogies of the saga. Apart from Dameron, BB-8, and Vaneé, Darth Vader and Palpatine are confirmed to make their appearances, as well as Ren, the charismatic leader of the Knights of Ren who was introduced in The Rise of Kyle Ren comic series, where he tries to lure Ben Solo to the Dark Side, but is defeated by Luke Skywalker and later killed by Ben Solo, who goes on to take the name of Kylo Ren.

Unlike many of the previous Lego installments, Terrifying Tales won’t include the voicework of actors from the movies or voice artists from The Clone Wars. However, Ren will be voiced by Christian Slater, making this the entrance of the Mr. Robot actor into the Star Wars universe.
