The Dark Side of The Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural, and now you can explore that path and those abilities as well. The tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise is not the only story Palpatine knew. He had so much more knowledge of the Dark Side and the Sith. For decades, Palpatine was the leader of the Galactic Republic, the secret leader of the Separatists, and one of, if not the most, powerful Siths to ever live. He no doubt knew some deep secrets and lore about the Dark Side and the Sith of old, and now they are being shared in a new book called Star Wars: The Secrets of the Sith.

Coming this fall, Star Wars: The Secrets of the Sith is a new book that will explore and celebrate all things Sith and the Dark Side. The book is being written by Mark Sumerak, and the artwork is being done by Sergio Gómez Silván. Of note, the book is completely written from the perspective of Sheev Palpatine. It will provide fans with a deeper look at the Dark Side with the added benefit of Darth Sidious’s wisdom and knowledge. The book is chock full of stories, character biographies, important events, deep-rooted Dark Side information, and luscious artwork depicting some of the Dark Side’s most powerful and famous students.

Sumerak and Gómez Silván both previously worked on the book The Secrets of the Jedi, which is similar to The Secrets of the Sith, but the former is told from the perspective of Luke Skywalker giving a look at the Light Side of the Force. However, the refocused narrator of their latest work allowed them to give fans a more in-depth look at a character that fans are familiar with and build upon what has already been established in the films, series, and previous books. When asked about the surprises in store for fans Sumerak said,

“I think fans will revel in the chance to get inside of the Emperor’s mind and to explore his generation-spanning master plan from his perspective.”

Sumerak continued to say that this is not an exact history of the Dark Side. As with The Secrets of the Jedi, he noted,

“We’re dealing with a narrator who has very specific beliefs about this subject, so it might be best to take some of his opinions with a few grains of Crait salt.”

Sumerak is also quick to remind fans that despite being warped and twisted by the Dark Side, the Emperor had plans for almost every action.

The art of the book adds a new layer to the perspectives and story-telling, and it provides some truly stunning artwork of characters. Gómez Silván pulled inspiration from several places for the artwork in the book.

“I started from the idea of medieval books of knights and saints, and I also researched the art nouveau style and Japanese parchments from the feudal era.”

One of the best pieces in the book depicts Anakin’s rise and fall in a single picture. It features shades of red and orange that seem to get darker as Anakin falls to the Dark Side, but it is contrasted by Obi-Wan’s blue lightsaber to represent the opposing light. There is another artwork showing several Sith and Jedi battling it out with lightsabers. Both pictures provide a wonderful blend of colors and shades to create pieces that look like they belong in a Star Wars cathedral.

The Secrets of the Sith looks to give people a deeper look at the Dark Side than ever before. Looking through the eyes of Darth Sidious should provide some intriguing, insightful, and interesting views on the ways of the Force and the Sith lords of old. This book could be the handbook to all future Sith that will undoubtedly come after Sidious, and it will be great to see what new information this will add about the particular character, the Sith, and the Dark Side in general. Star Wars: The Secrets of the Sith is being published by Insight Editions and will be available on October 5, 2021, but fans can pre-order the book now.
