Kylo Ren Went On A Rampage After 'The Last Jedi,' Killing Multiple Planets In The Process

Surprised?

There are many gaps between the Star Wars movies. Under Lucasfilm, they would often be filled by a show or novels in the Legends timeline, and the trend has continued in the Disney era. For example, there have been comics that show the adventures of our beloved characters on both sides between the films. In Star Wars Adventures #2, the story turns to Kylo Ren, giving us some insight into how he evolved beyond the films. This one showed us a rather dark side of the new Supreme Leader; that he went on a rampage, setting at least one whole planet ablaze in the process.

In "Follow and Lead," Ren finds himself on a planet after the events of The Last Jedi. It is clear that he just expects the inhabitants of the planet to submit to the will of the First Order, but it looks like the young leader winds up enjoying himself a little too much. Despite having a speech to give to the defeated inhabitants of the planet, he chooses to destroy it, seeming disgusted with the whole thing. In what should have been one of his victory laps after another show of dominance, he was confronted by a a group of rebels set on scaring the First Order away from their home. Enraged at this show of defiance, Ren engages with a woman who appears to be the leader of the group attempting to take back their home.

She seems to put up a fight, even dodging his lightsaber. But it was not that which enraged the new Supreme Leader to a new extreme, but her words. He could not fathom that anyone would not want to become a part of the First Order. This woman not only did not want to become a part of it; she would rather die than let him take over the planet like that. Kylo Ren is so sickened by her beliefs and defiance that he even stops fighting her, almost seeming to deem her not worthy of his time. Instead, he left them all to the stormtroopers instead.

Next, we see him leaving the planet with the whole surface engulfed in flames. It is not clear how the flames happened. While flame troopers could have been a part of the end result, he does not seem particularly remorseful about the event taking place. Instead, he seems only resolved that it was the right thing to do. In his eyes, he leads the whole galaxy as the new Supreme Leader of the First Order, and as such, they should have followed him as he seems to regard the First Order as the greatest regime. He does allude to the fact that he did not necessarily want to be the Supreme Leader, but it is only an offhanded comment, more difficult to tie into the eventual events of The Rise of Skywalker.

All in all, the worst thing about this comic is that it had a chance to set up something grand and impressive to fill in the timeline between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, and instead it seems to be a one-shot, resulting in little more than filler. With so much of Kylo Ren left to be explored, they had a chance to really fill in the gaps between those movies, show how Ren's transition to power happened, show how the First Order adapted and even look into Hux and his reaction to it all, but instead we got a one-off filler story of him fighting a very unspecific group of rebels that amounted to nothing more. With a chance to tie this into the main movies, it seems an odd choice to make a rather bland issue of filler instead of something important to bring into the canon.
