Jennifer Beals Reveals She Had No Idea What 'Star Wars' Show She Was Actually Starring In

Star Wars is no stranger to star power, from Lucas casting Harrison Ford, an actor more well known then anyone else in the cast, to The Clone Wars featuring guests from other sci-fi franchises like Star Trek and Doctor Who, star power has been playing a minor yet noticeable role in the saga for some time now. It’s no surprise that the latest show, The Book of Boba Fett, is having a few stars of its own. Most prominent is Jennifer Beals, who is best known for starring in the 1983 film Flashdance, and has been cast in Boba Fett as a Twi'lek character.

One other notable aspect about Boba Fett is its secrecy, and the production has been very effective at keeping its secrets under wraps. Almost all of the trailer footage has come from the beginning of the first episode, and we have yet to see any real plot synopsis for any of the episodes. We don’t know the full story, and we don’t know who the major characters are, apart from Fett and Fennec Shand. Even the actors themselves seem to be left out of the loop at times, if what Beals had to say is any indication.

In fact, Jennifer Beals didn’t even know which Star Wars show she was supposed to be appearing in. In an interview with Variety, she states:

“I knew about the character. But this is how good they are at the lockdown of secrets: Even when I first stepped onto the set, I didn’t realize that I was in 'The Book of Boba Fett', I just knew that I was getting to be part of this story.”

As stated before, Jennifer Beals will be playing a Twi’lek, but what her role in the plot will be is unknown, as are the rest of the details about her character, including her name and in how many episodes she will be in. We should be getting more details soon, as the show launches in one week. Then we can find out just who Beal’s character is. Until then, we can only speculate as to the nature of her role, though I doubt many of us will get it right.

Twi’leks have been around since Return of the Jedi, which The Book of Boba Fett seems to be taking the most influence from. Since then, there've been a lot of Twi’lek characters in the franchise, with a variety of motivations and alignments. From Bib Fortuna, Jabba’s majordomo, to Oola one of his dancing slave girls. From Ayla Secura, a Jedi Knight during the Clone Wars, to Hera Syndulla, leader of the Rebel cell, "the Spectres." The Mandalorian introduced Xi’an, an old associate of Din Djarin looking for her brother, Qin. Fans of Knights of the Old Republic will of course remember Mission Vao, one of the player’s companions in the search for the Star Forge.

The Book of Boba Fett starts on December 29, one week from the writing of this article. This should give us some answers to a lot of the questions we’re asking, like those about Jennifer Beals. However, I’m sure she’ll give a good performance that will draw us into Boba Fett’s new criminal underworld, and leave us wanting more. Until that day, however, we just need to be patient, and make sure our Disney+ subscriptions are renewed. For now, we wish you all a Happy Holidays, and a very Mandalorian New Year.
