The consequences of climate change are rising at an alarming rate. South Asian floods, Amazon rainforest fires, East African droughts and Australian bushfires are just a few examples of the devastation caused by climate crises.

And who's to blame but humankind? From operations of large corporations to individual lifestyle choices, we are quickly pushing our planet towards destruction. There is no time to contemplate the impact of our wrongdoings, we must take immediate action.

It’s imperative to make your contribution to save and conserve our planet for the generations to come. In this post, we’re sharing simple ways you can reform your lifestyle for a better future.

Ditch Single-Use Plastic

Most of us get our morning coffees in disposable cups without even giving it a second thought.

It’s crucial to break the habit of using single-use plastic in our daily lives. You should take your own cup to coffee stores. Also, you can easily get your hands on reusable straws and cutlery. Save the turtles!

Avoid Eating Meat

Producing meat and poultry requires a lot of resources and raises your carbon footprint. While it might not be feasible to turn vegan entirely, you can start by eating a couple of vegan or vegetarian meals every week.

If you can't live without the distinct taste of meat, give Beyond Meat a try. It’s an excellent vegan meat substitute.

Cut Down Energy Consumption

Whether you’re at work or home, use energy consciously. Always turn off lights and electronics when not in use.

You can make a number of simple energy-efficient changes to your home. For instance, replace halogen bulbs and CFLs with LEDs. This will also allow you to enjoy energy savings.

Switch to Renewable Energy

Burning fossil fuels to generate energy is one of the biggest reasons behind rising levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

If you haven’t already, consider switching to a renewable energy plan. For residential and commercial green energy plans, AGL Electricity rates are quite competitive.

Reuse & Recycle

We’re trapped in the cycle of buying new things constantly. Break free from this habit and try fixing things before throwing them away. Find creative uses for things you no longer need or send them to a recycling unit.

Try Thrifting

Fashion is one of the biggest polluting industries. With our increasing consumption of fast fashion, this pollution has escalated.

Why not try purchasing pre-loved clothing? Thrifting is an excellent way to get your hands on one-of-a-kind items at a bargain price.

Shop at Zero-Waste Stores

Every single pantry or grocery item comes in layers and layers of packaging, which ultimately ends up in landfills.

The solution for this is shopping at zero-waste stores. You can take your own containers and buy package-free goods. Also, buying in bulk is usually cheaper!

Use Public Transportation

Do you drive your car to work every day? You can make a significant difference by changing your mode of daily transport.

From carpooling to public transportation, there are greener alternatives available. Besides helping the environment, you will save fuel costs.

Start Composting

There’s a better way to use waste food instead of throwing it away - composting. You can put all your food waste in a composting bin and use the compost to fertilise your garden. This will also bring down methane gas build up in the atmosphere.

Save Water

Whether you keep the tap running while brushing your teeth or take long showers, it is time to cut back your water consumption. Turning off the tap and taking shorter showers are small changes with favourable implications.

The Bottom Line

Living sustainably isn’t as complex as you might think. You don’t have to completely transform overnight, it’s just important to start somewhere with small changes!
