Hey, copywriters! Have you ever felt like your job is being threatened by a bunch of robots? No, I'm not talking about the ones that vacuum your floor or make your coffee. I'm talking about the ones that write your copy. Yes, you heard me right. Artificial intelligence is taking over the world of copywriting, and it's not a joke.

AI is everywhere these days, from chatbots to voice assistants to content generators. And it's not just a novelty; it's a powerful tool that can help you create better, faster and more engaging copy.

But how do you compete with a machine that can write thousands of words in minutes, without breaking a sweat or making a typo? How do you keep your skills relevant and your clients happy in the age of automation? How do you write with AI, not against it?

I'm a copywriter in Singapore and I love writing creative content for various clients. But sometimes, I get stuck or bored with the same old topics and formats. That's why I see AI as an ally, not a threat.

In this blog post, I'll share some tips and insights on how to adapt and survive as a copywriter in the era of AI. Whether you're a beginner or a veteran, you'll find some useful advice on how to leverage AI to your advantage and avoid becoming obsolete.

Tip #1: Embrace AI as a partner, not a rival

The first thing you need to do is change your mindset about AI. Don't see it as a threat or a competitor, but as a partner and a collaborator. AI is not here to replace you, but to enhance you. It can help you with tasks that are tedious, time-consuming or repetitive, such as research, editing, proofreading or formatting. It can also help you with tasks that are creative, challenging or innovative, such as brainstorming, generating ideas, finding new angles or perspectives or writing catchy headlines.

AI can be your ally in creating better copy, but only if you let it. Don't resist or ignore it; embrace it and learn from it. Use it as a tool to improve your writing skills and your workflow. Experiment with different AI tools and platforms and see what works best for you and your clients. You might be surprised by how much AI can help you write faster, smarter and more effectively.

Tip #2: Focus on your human strengths

While AI can do many things that humans can do, it can't do everything that humans can do. There are still some aspects of copywriting that are uniquely human and that AI can't replicate or replace. These are your strengths and your competitive edge as a copywriter.

Some of these human strengths are:

- Empathy: You can understand and connect with your audience on an emotional level, and write copy that resonates with their needs, desires, fears and aspirations.

- Creativity: You can come up with original, fresh and unique ideas that stand out from the crowd and capture attention.

- Strategy: You can plan and execute a copywriting campaign that aligns with your client's goals, brand identity and target market.

- Storytelling: You can craft compelling stories that engage and persuade your audience and make them take action.

- Humor: You can use humor to make your copy more fun, memorable and relatable.

These are the skills that AI can't match or surpass (at least not yet). These are the skills that make you human and valuable as a copywriter. These are the skills that you should focus on developing and showcasing in your work.

Tip #3: Keep learning and evolving

The last tip I have for you is to keep learning and evolving as a copywriter. AI is constantly changing and improving, so you need to keep up with the latest trends and developments in the field. You also need to keep updating your knowledge and skills in copywriting, marketing, psychology, SEO and other related areas.

Don't get complacent or stagnant; always look for new ways to grow and improve as a writer. Read books, blogs, podcasts and newsletters on copywriting and AI. Take online courses, webinars or workshops on these topics. Join online communities or forums where you can network with other copywriters and learn from their experiences. Seek feedback from your clients, peers or mentors on how to improve your work.

The more you learn and evolve as a copywriter, the more you'll be able to adapt and survive in the era of AI. You'll be able to use AI to your advantage and create amazing copy that delivers results for your clients.

Conclusion

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not a Luddite who hates technology. I use AI tools to help me with some aspects of my work, such as research, editing, and proofreading. I think AI can be a great assistant and a collaborator for copywriters. But it can’t be a substitute or a competitor. It can’t do what I do best: connect with people through words.

AI is not the enemy of copywriters; it's the friend. It's a powerful tool that can help you create better copy faster and easier than ever before. But it's not enough to rely on AI alone; you also need to leverage your human strengths and keep learning and evolving as a writer.

By following these tips, you'll be able to write with AI, not against it. You'll be able to adapt and survive as a copywriter in the era of AI.

About the Creator

Jamu Lim

I am a writer. I am a human being who writes. Sometimes people call me a novelist, but that’s not really accurate. I’ve written short stories and poetry, but I would classify myself more as a storyteller.
