How The High Republic Should Affect Post-'The Rise Of Skywalker' Stories

How Could They Connect?

Today, The High Republic is one of the bigger parts of the Star Wars brand. The various book series, comics and other tie-in materials are creating quite an interesting piece of the Star Wars universe for creators to play in. Not only that, there is now a lot of lore for them to pull and bring over to different eras, especially for the post-The Rise of Skywalker era. In fact, it may be wise to look back to the High Republic era as a way to influence the future and beyond.

Rey has defeated the Emperor and the First Order, and now she must look to rebuild her Jedi Order. But how will she do this? What lessons will she take from the Jedi of the past? Well one thing she could do is look to when the Jedi were in their glory days, and those glory days, of course, would be the High Republic. Looking at a time of peace and tranquility that lasted for a thousand years would be a good first step for the heros of Resistance to do if they have plans to make the galaxy a better place. Not only that, but from a general out of universe perspective, the High Republic could factor into post-TROS storytellers anyway, being able to bridge the universe together and making it all feel like one cohesive piece.

In The Rise of Kylo Ren comic, Luke Skywalker had visited several Jedi Temples in his time, many of them from the age of the High Republic. There is no reason that Rey and her first apprentice Finn should not be visiting those same temples and looking into that kind of lore. Learning from the past to move forward in the future is one of the most important things a Jedi or non-Force user could do. They could learn how the Jedi of the High Republic operated, how they were able to be a force for good in the universe and not just be a dogmatic order that mostly kept to themselves or were purely agents of the government at large. These are things Rey must learn in order to carefully build her order that could last at least for several years to come.

However, it is not just the Jedi that could learn from the High Republic, but also the government to come as well. With the First Order defeated, there is now a power vacuum within the wider galaxy that needs to be filled. The next government could look to the High Republic, when it was a time of peace and stability in terms of both what to do and what not to do. When planets tried to help one another and there was a spirit of goodwill. Sure, there were probably flaws. But looking at a good model that worked and then improving upon i is always something that anyone should do, especially if they are hoping to make a peace that will last.

In the end, the High Republic should tie in to the post-TROS world. Not only because as we open up that part of the timeline, the ripples and ramifications it has on the rest of the galaxy should be felt, but also because it was a time that Rey and the heroes of the sequels should look to and understand. Sometimes, looking to determine the past is not necessarily a bad thing, but one should not try to replicate the past as well. Finding a balance is important, and in the end, that is what Star Wars is at the end of the day: finding balance in all things.
